How much responsibility do you think adults take for their social media behavior?
I think a vast majority are 'one and done'; they post what is top of their mind without realizing the ramifications of their words or how their words can be taken out of context. You can tell by the way it is written if it was a well-thought-out post, or just a 'one and done.'
Then there is the calculated adult who writes a post, reads it, edits it, and then deletes it without anyone ever knowing. This adult needs to release a thought. Perhaps it is a comment on someone's post. But knows their words will not be received well and quite possibly cause harm. Yet they have said what needed to be said, even if no one ever sees it.
A written word is a powerful thing; if left to the impression of others, it can be good, bad, evil, or just words thrown to a page. The option to edit or delete or to clarify their words allows an adult to take responsibility for their social media behaviour, but it does not always happen.
