Deadshifted (Edie Spence Series Book 4) by Cassie Alexander (Author) "4.6 out of 5 stars (159) 3.9 on Goodreads 1,009 ratings Book 4 of 5: Edie Spence Series Now with a special cover for the 2025 Christmas Season! As Nurse Edie Spence embarks on her latest supernatural adventure from Cassie Alexander, the perils of the deep threaten to pull her under... Edie Spence is in desperate need of a vacation-some R&R away from the craziness that shadows her as a nurse dealing with paranormal patients. But as she and her shapeshifter boyfriend, Asher, set sail on a cruise for Hawaii, they'll realize that seasickness isn't the only thing threatening their romantic getaway.... DEADSHIFTED While on board, Asher comes face-to-face with Nathaniel, an old nemesis from his dark past. Asher is convinced he's up to no good...especially when passengers start to come down with a mysterious illness unlike anything Edie and Asher have ever encountered. Soon Edie finds herself fighting for the life of the one person who means the most to her—Asher. As chaos explodes, will Edie be able to save their future together...or will this close encounter with the paranormal side be her last?" Above part is from the Amazon sales page. Shockingly though, before I get into what I thought of this book... this WAS a 6 book series and now the 6th book is no longer for sale and isn't even in the listing anymore for the series! I wish I'd bought them all ... now I'll never know? Unless she's rewriting it for some reason? Very weird... I almost decided not to read book 5 because if it ends on a cliffhanger like this one did, and book 6 isn't available... I will find that frustrating. But I had to know what happens next, so I already started book 5. This book was very unlike the others in the series. It started out pretty slow. The only real hook at the beginning was her secret and when she'd tell Asher about it. Then at the safety briefing on the first day of the cruise there was some interest in who / what he saw that had him uptight but it just didn't feel compelling. However, by the middle of the book, I was hooked. It was like the worst pandemic on a ship crossed with supernatural disaster and an evil plan plus a personal vendetta against Asher that spilled out to Edie. Her secret became integral to the plot and there were some interesting new characters. SPOILER alert - please skip this paragraph if you don't want spoilers. So there was a siren, a leviathan, and some really interesting humans. Then at the end - Edie would have died if Asher hadn't made a command decision to appeal to Anna the vampire but Anna wasn't available and the way she was saved... basically turned her into a prisoner slave and that's when the book ended. So of course, I had to know what happened with her and her secret. I sure hope book 5 ends nicely or I'll have to make up my whole own book 6. I can tell you that book 5 is more riveting from the beginning (than this one). So there will likely be another review coming soon. |
