" Bloodshifted (Edie Spence Series Book 5) by Cassie Alexander (Author) 4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars (195) 4.0 on Goodreads 851 ratings Book 5 of 5: Edie Spence Series Now with a special cover for the 2025 Christmas Season! Ambushed. Blindfolded. Kidnapped by vampires. Edie Spence must race against time to save herself and her baby―from the nightmare that flows through her veins… As a nurse in the hospital's secret Y4 ward, Edie has seen her share of daytimers. Once-ordinary humans who've tasted vampire blood, daytimers are doomed to serve their nighttime masters. Forever. And now Edie has to face something even more horrifying: she's become one too…" Unfortunately, as I expected, with the removal of book 6, and this one ending on a cliffhanger, I felt left hanging. But it was pretty easy to create my own mental version of book 6, so I'll live, but I wish she hadn't yanked it and wonder why she did. This book was a lot more gripping than the last one. From start to finish Edie and her secret were in super danger. Literally at risk for death every moment. And the end big battle scene was really wild. I didn't expect the final command from Raven as it went against his agreement with Anna, but (SPOILER ALERT - skip to next paragraph if you don't want a spoiler, please), but as he was dying anyway, I guess he didn't have anything to lose. If it weren't for Anna's secret (the baby!), she would have likely sacrificed herself... but can you imagine having to choose between killing yourself and your baby or your best friend? So glad I won't likely ever have to make that choice! I thought Edie was super resourceful and held herself together in this very difficult set of circumstances better than most people would, even if supernatural stuff was real and she had prior experience... it was still intense. So this shouldn't be the last book in the series, but it is. It turns out I have a book from three years ago by this author that I haven't read yet. I might read it... but I guess I'd better buy the whole series before I start or else the last one could get yanked. I might just not read it because if this is a sales tactic, it's a mean one. I wish my library carried these. If I didn't get books as rewards, I wouldn't consider buying them, but it is a nice reward. We'll see. I have a library book to read next that's in a totally different vein and another one I already read that I still need to review, plus some audio books I finished but haven't reviewed yet. I'll probably save product reviews for books I want to admit to having read, haha. |
