An old tale of boy meets girl, etc., told from psychological point of view of the boy. |
| Rene is an excavation of a relationship. As its dying pieces are unearthed, the living and flawed past of its major characters, the Lawyer and Rene (a lawyer as well), is preserved. By using the point of view of the Lawyer, the reader is able to rummage through the consciousness of the male mind, and its sexual view of relationships, and watch it work in a primal and unfettered manner against the backdrop of Manhattan’s high-powered social and occupational landscape. Charting the Lawyer’s Svengali interactions with Rene offers an uncensored and disturbing presentation of the arc of their relationship as it twists and changes both of them. Touching on sex, religion, family, work, childhood, and death, Rene’s tragedy is as inevitable, as its comedy is undeniable. |
