Chapter #2

Meet

Justin jumped as the tintinnabulation of his ringing phone startled him out of his thoughts. Who on earth would be calling him now. He had no family to speak of and the deal with Mr. Lereaux had gone seamlessly. Not only had he finished his finest work yet, he'd made a load of money in the process. All he wanted was to disappear in to the abyss of none-existence. Unfortunately whomever was calling didn't give a rip about what he wanted. He resigned himself to that fact and ended the incessant ringing. "Hello?"

"Change of plans, Avery. Our transport has gone missing and the boss wants you back here ASAP. We need that antidote." "Looks like you'll be sticking around for awhile after all." He added with a sneer.

Panic gripped Justin in the gut and almost bowled him over. He had finished some incredible work in the last eighteen months, but there was no way he wanted mixed up with these people any longer than absolutely necessary. Besides he had a "friend" waiting for him on the other side of the ocean to leak all of his newfound knowledge to. The rest of the world deserved to know what he knew.

Kanya couldn't help but overhear the terse conversation the handsome "man-sized Opey" was carrying on. He definitely was not talking to a friend. Kanya though he might pass out right there in the airport ticket line. The man was trying to whisper, but even with her ipod on one ear she could hear enough to tell something was up with this guy. His face was the color of snow and the fear in his eyes made even her a little nervous. Not that she wasn't used to being around scary types or seeing fear in the eyes of her father's business associates and clients alike. Just as they were nearing the ticket counter Kanya was surprised by the firm grip on her arm and shocked to see who the culprit was. Mr. 50's himself had a lock on her arm and was pulling her out of line and away from the counter she'd waited to get to for the last 45 minutes. "What in God's name do you think you're doing," she insisted. "I don't know who you are, but if you don't let go of my arm right now, I'm going to make you wish you'd been standing next to someone else in that line." "Now I'm going to miss my plane you jerk..."

"Shut up lady." Her abductor sneered in a tone that belayed his anger, or was it shear desperation she saw in his face? he stopped long enough to face her and utter, "Do as I say and we'll both get out of here alive." He looked to be almost pleading with her, but before Kanya could argue she was being pulled again in a manner that was really beginning to annoy her.

"Look buddy, I don't know what kind of trouble you're in, but I'm not really inclined to be any part of it." She yelled, "Let go, now," and drew more than one glance from passersby as they nearly sprinted through the airport with "Opey" dragging her like a rag doll, baggage in tow. He was definitely stronger than he looked at first sight. He must work out when he wasn't kidnapping innocent travelers. As they neared the exit out to the drop off/pick up area Kanya spotted a couple of faces that aren't easily forgotten. Two of her father’s thugs were sprinting after them, the looks on their faces nothing less than menacing. How on earth had they found her here and who was this guy? She’d never seen him before today, but suddenly she was more than obliged to aide in their escape. Her heart plunged as the goons got closer. There were little more than 30 yards between them and a certain untimely death as unsuspecting travelers were tossed and shoved out of the way.

“Go, Go, Go.” She yelled, now more eager than her captor to get out of dodge. Obviously he hadn’t seen the two gorillas bearing down on them. “Right there, an open cab, come on, let’s go.” Now she was pulling him as he tripped over their forgotten bags and practically fell into the back seat of the taxi. "Ugly and Uglier" had just busted through the exit doors and out into the road as they pulled out of the drive, a little too close for comfort.

"What on earth got into you?" Opey demanded. "I thought I was the one begging you to help me."

"Now just wait a minute. I'm the one that's going to be asking the questions." I said. "Who are you and why did you grab me?" "Those two thugs back there chasing us are friends of my father and none too friendly."

Opey stared at me as if my eyeballs had fallen out of my head. "Do you mean, you know those guys?" He was incredulous at her confession.

"Well, yeah, unfortunately. My father is in a line of business that requires associates that don't mind to do some dirty work, if you know what I mean."

"Oh, dear Lord." Opey looked as if he might pass out again. What was with this guy? Kanya would've worried about this interesting guy more, but her head hurt to bad. Right now, she just wanted to get far away from the airport and figure out where to go from there.
