Laura awoke to the sound of sirens. As her eyes slowly opened, she noticed the faint red and blue coloration that filled the dark room, before disappearing as fast as it came. She swiftly rose and gazed outside her 3rd floor window. She caught the tailights of two police vehicles speeding down her street.
<Another high speed pursuit>, she thought. <Two down the same street in a day. I'd hate to be the poor bastards that protect and serve around here.>
Curiosity soon passed, and she found herself laying back down to the wonderful realm of sleep. Before sleep could find her, a knock on the door found her first.
"Mmmmm... who is it?"
"Raccoon Police Department, ma'am."
Laura's eyes narrowed as she wondered what the hell would they be doing here. She rose again, and with newfound dizziness in her brain, she crossed the small apartment room to the door and peered through the eyehole. A middle-aged uniform man stood outside, appearing to be staring straight back at her. She hesitated, then cautiously unlocked and opened the door.
"Ma'am, my name is Officer Cameron. I'll have to ask you to come with me," the officer said.
"Why," asked Laura, "What's the problem?"
"Ma'am..."
"Laura."
"Laura, we are evacuating citizens of the city. There is an extreme situation, so please hurry. My car is downstairs..."
"Woah, woah, wait a minute, what's happening? A bomb threat or something?"
Officer Cameron looked nervous and in a hurry. "I'll explain in the squad car. Please hurry, grab what you need, and come downstairs with me."
