Jessica Torrey thought of herself as a good PI. So when she thought she heard quick-moving footsteps around the corner of the bank, she did a little quick moving herself. Mumbling a flimsy excuse to Darren, she walked away as if going to her car. As soon as she saw Darren's attention go elsewhere, she headed for the back of the bank.
Just as she turned the corner on the southwest side, she saw a flash of a green hooded sweater running away. He or she seemed to be heading for the small park just behind the bank. Without a second's thought, Jessica gave herself up to the chase.
She was a good runner; it was something she enjoyed. She ran every day with her good friend Laurie, whom she'd known practically her whole life. It was something they did to keep up with each other's lives, since they were both so busy they rarely had time to get together otherwise.
So Jessica didn't get breathless during a chase, the way a career criminal might. It didn't take her long to catch up with the person in the green sweater who was running away from the scene.
