Just as Negi was about to start the incantation, one of his students, Setsuna, came walking in his field of vision. The black-haired girl had her hair down today (a rare event), and was dressed in a plain white shirt and black shorts as she noticed her teacher in the distance. Still holding her sword in her hand, she dropped it near her teacher and began to talk to him as she approached him.
"Good morning, Negi-sensei", she smiled to her teacher, waving her left hand to him, her other hand putting down her sword near him.
"Good morning to you too, Setsuna-san", smiled Negi in reply, also waving to the girl. "What are you doing today in this most beautiful weather?"
"I was practicing some sword training, as well as sparring with Asuna-san", Setsuna told her teacher. "You never know when our next battle may be, after all. We always have to be on our toes."
Setsuna then looked at the dirt below Negi's feet, as well as his magic circle.
"Ah, I see you've made a circle. Are you practicing some kind of spell?"
"Yep", Negi responded. "It's a growth spell."
"G-growth spell??" asked a confused Setsuna. "I didn't know they had that kind of spell in your magic books."
"Apparently it's not used very often for some reason", Negi explained to Setsuna. "But I'm going to make this rock grow."
"Is it all right if I watch too, Negi-sensei?" asked a slightly flustered (and intrigued) Setsuna.
"Sure", smiled Negi. "Just be sure not to get too close to the circle."
With that, Setsuna proceeded to step back right behind Negi. The thought of the growth spell ran for her mind as she watched Negi prepare his spell. It made Setsuna wonder about her own height, considering herself fairly short for a 13 year-old girl. Konoka was a couple of inches than her, and Asuna looked like an adult in terms of height stature in comparison. Although Setsuna didn't look particularly young for her age, she did think of herself as fairly short.
"Negi-sensei...do you think I'm short for my age?" Setsuna asked her teacher in a sad tone of voice.
"Nonsense, Setsuna-san. You're fine just the way you are", Negi smiled in reply. "If anything, I'm short for my age."
"I'm worried one day my height might get in the way of protecting Ojo-sama.."
"Don't worry, Setsuna-san. Konoka-san's got you, Asuna-san, me, and many others in this school to protect her. Why are you asking this?"
"Because...I want you to help me protect Ojo-sama", Setsuna said in a decreasingly lower volume of voice, proceeding closer to her teacher until she was right beside him.
Negi pushed his head upward as he looked at the now depressed student of his. Usually Setsuna had either a determined or content look on her face as of late, but today she almost seem scared.
"Setsuna-san..do you want me to make you bigger?" Negi asked her.
"I-I do, sensei", Setsuna said in a much more assuring, louder voice. "I'll put my life on the line for Ojo-sama!"
With that, Setsuna put down her sword on the ground and proceeded to the circle, removing the rock from it. But before fully entering, she told her teacher while blushing beet red:
"Negi-sensei, please don't make me TOO tall. I don't want to hurt anyone."
"I promise you, Setsuna-san", Negi told her, in a comforting tone. "And if something goes wrong, I'll help you."
Negi then proceeded to take his staff and lift it with his arms, the staff facing vertically and away from the boy. The magic circle began to glow, and so did the tip of Negi's staff as he said the incantation: "Incresco Tantus!" And as soon as Negi said it, both the magic circle and the light from his staff disappeared.
"Setsuna-san, are you all right?" questioned Negi, hoping he didn't hurt the girl in any way.
"I'm fine, sensei", smiled Setsuna. "Though I guess it didn't work." Setsuna then proceeded to go pick up her sword and walk away from her teacher, waving him a friendly good-bye as she headed off to eat. She didn't look too phased by the spell's failure, but Negi was.
"I'm sorry, Setsuna-san", Negi frowned. "I guess I couldn't do it."
Setsuna then walked up to her teacher, smiling with her eye closed and embraced him in a hug.
"It's all right", smiled Setsuna. "You're still a great magic user, Negi-sensei. I just need to train some mo..."
Setsuna froze in mid-sentence, feeling something like a muscle cramp in her stomach. She fell to the ground on her knees as she panted heavily, screaming shortly afterward.
"AHH!! It hurts!!" exclaimed Setsuna as she pulled at the ground below her with her hands.
"Setsuna-san!!" exclaimed Negi. "What's happening?!"
As Negi said this, he noticed Setsuna's hair was getting longer, her petite arms were getting much longer, and her head was growing to a much bigger size. It seemed as if she was growing unevenly, with her head, hair, and arms at least 4 or 5 times their normal height, but the rest of her body the same size.
"This is really awkward", Setsuna nearly cried, struggling to keep balance as she stood up with her long arms, only to fall to the ground. Fortunately, the rest of her body was starting to grow. First up were her hands, then her legs, feet, and finally her stomach and backside. All in all it took about 4 minutes for Setsuna to finish growing to a height of about 24 feet (a little less than 5 times her current height). She could finally stand up now that her whole body was one size, but she found herself scooting on her butt on the ground until she managed to sit up, like she was in a chair that was hard to get out of.
"Negi-sensei", Setsuna frowned, worried about her new found size. "I'm...not intimidating, am I?"
"Well, you ARE a little intimidating at that size", Negi said nervously, causing Setsuna to droop her head down in sadness.
"B-b-b-but you're still the same Setuna-san you've always been: strong, brave, and beautiful!"
Setsuna felt a little better after Negi's recovery comment, sitting down beside her teacher. She was still a little nervous looking at her surroundings, though, and she now realized how it felt for the title heroine from Alice in Wonderland after she ate the "Eat Me" cookies.
"What should we do now, Setsuna-san?" asked Negi.
"Well..." thought Setsuna...
