Chapter #3

Sabotage!?

by: Calex The Werekitten Author IconMail Icon
You head down to where the weapon is stored with the engineers to check on exactly what is going on. Your tail bristles nervously unsure of what could possibly have caused the problem. A ton of work went into this, numerous test and diagnostics have been done before attempting to fire this. You weren't an engineer, you didn't understand everything that went into it, but it seemed incredibly unlikely the weapon would simply overheat. So if it wasn't a random malfunction then that left the possibility of sabotage.

That was a scary possibility. Who would sabotage it? An enemy spy? A traitor without the cat's own ranks? A third party? You quickly licked a paw and attempted to pat your bristled fur down to try and appear more calm. As soon as you arrived at your destination the engineers spread out and began checking various pieces of machinery and computers.

"That's strange." One of the engineers speaks up. You looked over at her, a tigress examining a console. "Everything in here seems to be running normally. I'm not showing any actual errors."

"But the weapon overheated when we tried to fire it? How is that possible!"

Your fur bristled again and you felt your ears lower against the top of your head. Something was very wrong. You walked over to the central computer that was attached to the power reactor of the shrink ray. The display read 'Ready to Fire' on it as if the cats upstairs hadn't attempted to fire the ray again. You tapped a few buttons on the machine to determine if it was working. The computer didn't react, and instead the 'Ready to Fire' message continued to blink on the screen. You looked for a power button seeing if you could restart the computer. There was none. You tried removing the front panels to see if you could disconnect the wires manually. Your tail went limp at what you saw inside.

Sitting inside the the panel was a mess of wires which you expected. However all these wires for for some reason connected to an acorn. An acorn? What kind of insane cat would attempt to run their super weapon off an acorn! No cat that's who! There was only one group insane enough to do something like that.

Oh... Oh no. Realization dawned. It was sabotage, and you knew who was behind it.

Suddenly the computer screen updated to display 'Firing in 10.' It started to slowly count down the seconds. You weren't sure what would happen if it fired off, but you knew the cats upstairs hadn't started this and there was no time to waste.

You attempted to rip the acorn out from the panel beneath the computer. It wouldn't bulge. The wires were far stronger than they had any right to be.

You tried to tear at the wires with your claws. What kind of material were these made of? Sure your claws weren't going to do anything absurd like slice through metal but they should have at least been able to cut through these wires like paper!

You were out of time. Whatever was about to happen you couldn't stop it.

"Everyone get down!" You gave a warning as you dove for cover behind a pile of boxes. All you could think to yourself was, 'Please don't explode. Please don't explode. Please don't explode.'

And then a bright light filled the entire room.

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. You and the engineers shrink

2. All the cats shrink

3. The shrinking effects stretch far beyond the land of cats

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
