Pairs of beady eyes turned to focus on Lisa. She seemed like a shriveled flower, so out of place amidst the number of obese men and women. A kid bearing a frightening resemblance to a pig pointed at Lisa's skinny legs and started laughing. Lisa shifted uncomfortably and decided she could not bear this any longer.
Hurriedly, she jumped off the bus, mumbling a word of apology to the driver. She decided she would call a cab instead.
The cab took ages to arrive. Lisa hoped the (most probably overweight) taxi driver would not make any comment about her weight, or lack of it. Finally, a huge yellow taxi pulled up rather clumsily at the curb.
"Are you a missionary to one of those poor African nations?" the driver greeted her with a smile.
"No I'm not, but you know what, your town could really send some food over there," snapped Lisa as she hopped in. It was bad enough they were gluttons, surely they did not need to be insulting as well.
The cabby shrugged. "Hey, chill. I didn't mean...it's just that you're really thin. Like those anorexic girls we used to see on TV. Nowadays we don't even get that anymore. Only actors above a certain weight are allowed; mayor says it's bad influence."
Lisa made a mental note to request an interview with the mayor and catch some TV later that night.
