A New Family

by: Bruce Lee Gifford Jr. Author IconMail Icon
So, there Bowhan was, running out of the village to find a place to put his cursed child. He knew that it would be best for the child to live with a family that live far away from the village. So, a family of farmers seemed like the best place. He also knew that is would be better to find a farm that was fairly poor, because the poor farmers tended to be kinder to people.

Eventually, Bowhan found the perfect place. He sneaked over the the farm house and placed the child at the door. The child reached out for Bowhan again through the bundle clothes. Bowhan took the tiny arm and placed it back in the bundle. Before he put it away, he noticed that it was covered in green scales. Bowhan took only more look at the child and saw that its human skin was replaced with green scales. The child was becoming more dragon-like by the minute.

"I'm sorry, kid," Bowhan said to the child, yet he knew it didn't understand him, "But I can't take care of you. It just wouldn't be acceptable. Though, these are good people and they'll take care of you." Bowhan gave out one finally sign. Then he knocked on the door and rushed away into the night. He kept running, knowing well that he might never see his child, again.

Guinevere heard the knocking on the door and she walked over to the door to answer. "Who could that be at this late of the hour?" she asked. Moments after Bowhan was out of sight, Guinevere opened the door. She looked around, but there was no one in sight. Then, she heard a baby crying. She looked down and saw a bundle of clothes. The cloth was completely covering the baby, so she didn't know that it was half-dragon. She quickly picked up the bundle and rocked it. "Oh, you poor thing. Let's get you out of the cold," she told the baby.

"Harold?" Guinevere screamed for her husband, "Get over here!"

Harold hurried over to her and their son, Jeffery who was five years old, followed his father. "What is it?" Harold asked.

"Look, someone left this poor child at our door," Guinevere informed him.

"Who would do something like that?" Harold asked horrified at the fact that someone would just leave their kid. Guinevere slowly uncovered the baby in here hands. She then gave out a gasp of surprise. "What is it?" Harold asked.

"Look," she managed to say. The child still looked exactly the same way Bowhan had last seen him. The baby now looked like an anthro dragon baby. It had dark green scales and deep blue eyes.

"What are we going to do with it?" Harold asked.

"We'll take care of it," Guinevere answered.

"But, it's a dragon," Harold argued, "Dragon's are dangerous. That was the reason some one left it here."

"But Harold, it's just a child," Guinevere replied, "I'm sure that if we take care of it, it won't harm us. It will think of us as its parents. Harold, it will all be fine."

Harold takes another look at the dragon child and gives in, "Well, I guess he is kind of cute." Harold stoked the dragon's head and the dragon child nuzzled his hand. "He seems friendly enough," Harold commented.

"What is it? Jeffery asked, "I want to see it."

"Guinevere knelt down in front of their five year old and showed him the dragon baby. "This is your new brother or sister," she told him.

"Which is it?" he asked, "Brother or sister?" Guinevere took a peek and said that it was his...
