Chapter #4

Snakes!

    by: Unknown
Bowhan reached out toward the blanket with a trembling hand. What would a child born of that monstrous mother be like? He swallowed hard, and pulled back the blanket. Instantly, he recoiled in horror. Monster! The child, if it could be called such, had a horrible cast of green, clammy skin. It's eyes were a dull grey, and looked...dead. There was no other way to describe them. But worst of all, and Bowhan shuddered as he beheld his offspring, were the writhing curls atop the child's head. Slimy, mottled green snakes twisted amongst themselves. A Gorgon. Bowhan shut his eyes tightly, willing the thing to disappear. It was still there. Unwillingly, he leaned in to look closer at the monster-child. Was it...was it dead? The tiny chest did not move with any sigh, the eyes stared blankly at the ceiling. A tiny hope fluttered in Bowhan's heart, but then the child stirred.

It's tiny hand moved slightly, and it drew a shallow breath. Those dead eyes moved dazedly, the snakes writhed with further intensity. Bowhan drew back. If this was indeed a Gorgon child, he must avoid its gaze at all costs, or he would suffer the same fate as those unfortunate adventurers of myth. Bowhan did not fancy spending the rest of his life as a statue. Quickly, he covered it with the blanket, and stood.

What should he do with this monstrous child, this demon, this...child of his own heart?
