Chapter #4

The 'Cure'?

    by: chaos Author IconMail Icon
Catwoman stood the furthest away from Robin, trying to be as invisible as a four hundred pound woman dressed as a cat could be. This was her fault, no one was saying it, but she knew it was true. If she hadn’t been so eager to eat Scarecrow then she might have been able to protect Robin. Also, she had digested the only man that understood the poison and denied Robin his cure. This was all her fault and she wanted to say something to Robin, but she was firmly rooted in place by her apprehension.

The relationship between her and Robin had always been tense. Batman was pretty much his father and she was his wife, making her Robin’s step-mom. Being a child's second mother was never easy, especially when the mother’s a sexpot that will gladly be double teamed by father and son. Catwoman had only made their relationship tenser by making advances on Robin, not an uncommon thing in the FJL, even among family, as Supergirl and her cousin proved. However, Robin never returned her affection, finding it creepy and awkward to be screwing his faux mom. For the boy wonder who had tapped everything, that was one line he was too afraid to cross.

Now there relationship would end like that, Catwoman had killed the son of the man she loved more then her freedom, life or fat ass. How was she going to live with this?

Batman gave no mind to his wives state of depression. He would make her feel better later, right now he had a problem that couldn’t wait. Holding onto his blubbery side-kick, Batman kept up his grim persona, while inside he was in turmoil. Batgirl pulled her crying face from his chest and brushed the tears away, knowing that she couldn’t give in, even if things were at their worst. She said “Are you sure there isn’t a cure for him? Have you checked everywhere? There has to be something we can do, right?”

Batman patted her sympathetically on the back, knowing how she felt right now. They were all helpless to do anything to save Robin on their own "I sent a sample to Wayne Industries, they say they’ve never seen anything like the poison and can’t even begin to find a cure before it’s too late. Star Labs said the same thing, only they’d send it to the Atom for a second opinion. The League is trying to see if any aliens have the technology to help Robin, but it doesn’t look good. I already called in Zatanna and Dr. Fate; magic was unable to do anything for him too. It…it doesn’t look good."

Batgirl started crying again and Batman held her tighter. He was an expert in death, but the death he usually faced came quick and without reason. This was slow and painful, there was nothing worse then standing by helplessly as someone you loved wasted away.

From where he rested, Robin watched the only real family he ever had mourn him while he was still alive. He didn’t feel bad about dying, only that the ones he cared about were suffering too. He had been ready to give his life fighting crime the minute he became Robin and so he had, there was nothing to be regretful of. The bright side that Robin focused on was that he was leaving a world on the brink of world peace. He was dying but his dream of a crime free world was being realized. That would allow him to die happily.

Just as things were their bleakest, the phone rang again. No one wanted to answer it, but Batman did, knowing no news could be worse then what was happening right now. Picking it up, he listening, saying nothing back. However, everyone started paying close attention when Batman started doing something he rarely did, he really smiled. It wasn’t the cruel smile he got when he pounded a villain into the ground or the perverted smile he got when he pounded Catwoman’s ass into the ground, this was an honest to God happy smile. He turned back to everyone, his joy clearly seen even through his cowl.

“The Atom has found a way to help Robin.”

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. The cure completely fixes Robin

2. The cure isn't as simple as everyone thinks

*Noteb*
3. The cure is stolen by a super villain

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
