"You lose," said the stranger. "You are not who I thought you were."
"Who did you think I was?" asked Blake.
"Someone else," replied the stranger ominously. "You were destroyed by a score of seven to thirty-three. I think you would do well to travel with your girlfriend to Zebar."
"What's Zebar?" asked Joana.
"It's a town to the north. It's a special provincial district, so certain rules are ... different there. I think your girlfriend will enjoy it more than you will."
"Yes, but what's Zebar?" Joana pressed.
"It's the only town in the region where the men are owned by the women."
"But I though they were equals!" exclaimed Blake in disbelief.
"Aye, they are," replied the stranger. "But in certain regions, people demanded different laws. I do not understand why, but in that town, the women were posited as superiors. Anything a woman says, her man must do. Every man who walks in there is a slave to the woman or women he is with; if he has none, he will be sold at a marked. He can only be freed if his mistress frees him. Any command she gives goes."
Joana and Blake walked to the town and saw that it was completely different. They could hardly see any men at all, although squirming could be seen in some women's garments. A house designed for a single woman had a sign that said, "To the one named Joana." As soon as Joana touched the sign, a key appeared in her hand. Confused, she walked into the house.
It was well-furnished in the style Joana would have furnished a house. The paint on the wall looked freshly applied, and Joana felt like it had been designed specifically for her. Blake, however, was uncertain as to his fate and did not like the prospects; although he trusted that Joana would do nothing to hurt him, he didn't like the look of the town.
Looking in the kitchen, Joana realized that there was absolutely no food, so she took some money from a table in the kitchen and set out to buy some. However, she didn't want anything to happen to Blake, so she put him...
