I'm going to give several reasons for how Gabriella becomes Gabrizilla.

The Lab accident: While conducting an experiment, Gabriella gets hit by an exploding flask and the resultant solution causes her to grow to an enormous size.


The Wish: After being made to feel short by a rather tall and pretty girl who has the hots for Troy, Gabriella wishes she was taller and finds herself increasingly looking down to talk to people than to talk to.
