Chapter #6

Head over to Hannah's friends

by: rugal b. Author IconMail Icon
You know Dana's number and where she lives. If you want to talk to her you can do so whenever you want. Besides, you think that you've absorbed just enough of Hannah's mind that you can try playing her around her group. Asserting control over her, you look away from Dana and towards Kristy and the others heading off in their direction. You give them a smile and wave as you sit down.

"Well, you're certainly looking upbeat." Kristy comments as you sit down.

"I am?" you ask, nervous that you might have already blown it.

"Well, I mean given how long you and Jordan were together..." Kristy starts, "I just would've figured... you know."

"Yeah, you didn't seem that happy this morning." Amanda chimes in.

Tasha nods, adding her two cents. "Yeah, you were ridin' us harder than usual. You seemed kinda pissed."

"Oh, uh, well..." you bite down on your lip, "It's just... I guess after practiced I realized what's the point in acting all depressed about it? People break up. It happens." you shrug, before adding, "Besides, my game would've suffered even more. And as much as I loved Jordan, basketball's really the only man for me."

"God DAMN!" Tasha exclaims with a laugh, "That is soooo cheesy."

"Yeah, but the optimism's good." Timothy adds, "She's right. You can't really go around moping about this stuff. Karter doesn't."

"That's because Karter's a piece of shit." declares Amanda.

Kristy just shakes her head. "Christ, Tim, that was barely two weeks ago. It's still a fresh wound."

"Oh, er... yeah. Crap." he says, looking over at Amanda, "I'm, uh, sorry. I totally forgot."

Amanda, for her part, doesn't respond. Instead, sitting there and continuing to stew. Derek decides to use this opportunity to speak up. "Look, for his part Jordan wasn't too happy about it either when I talked to him this morning." He gives a slight pause. "He just told me that things had grown so cold between you guys in the last couple of months. He told me he still cared about you but that in his eyes, it seemed like you weren't reciprocating it. He felt like you guys were already kinda unofficially broken up so he figured it was time to make it official."

"And why does it seem like he's trying to make HER out to be the villain?" Kristy asks, a defiant tone in her voice. "I didn't see him make any significant efforts to try and bring her out of the funk she's been in. Christ, the girl has a lot on her mind right now and he can't even be a little supportive?" And then, almost to add a little bit of sting to her words, she throws in one final shot at Derek. "Although I guess you can empathize with him a little in THAT department, can't you?"

Derek looks like he's been punched in the gut and you feel compelled to rise to his defense. "Kristy, don't worry about it." you say, "He's right. I could've done more myself. I've just been so caught up in my own head that I was just pushing him away, I guess." you sigh, "But this kind of stuff happens, you know? C'est la vie."

"Well, there's Kyle and Jenny..." Timothy adds.

"Kyle and Jenny are like... freaks when it comes to the whole dating thing, though." Tasha says, jumping in. "I mean, I don't even think they've HAD anyone else since like the 6th grade."

"Anyway." Kristy says turning to you, "Just come over to my place after school. A swim'll do you good and help get your mind off things."

You thank her for the offer and the rest of lunch goes without a hitch, turning into more general gossip and a little bit of talk about the upcoming game against Westside for the boys. The second half of the day isn't filled with anything out of the ordinary, either. Just filled with more lectures, a pop quiz, and more condolences over what happened with you and Jordan. Some of them coming from places you know are heartfelt (Diana Lord and Darcy Whitehead), some not so much (Sammy Orson's a snake and you hope Ben Paxon's offer to "talk with" Jordan at practice is mostly a joke).

After school lets out, you head back to the Chamberlain home, toss her uniform in a hamper, grab her swimsuit, and head over to the Kristy's. The Carlson's are one of the richest family's in the city, hell in the STATE for that matter, and Hannah's been over to their place enough times that the size of it wouldn't really surprise her. But for all you're acting, you're NOT Hannah and the house's size DOES surprise you. Kristy greets you out front and, thanks to Hannah's memories, you're able head to a bathroom near the pool and change. You take a moment to admire your reflection in the mirror: the two-piece lets you get a nice glimpse of Hannah's slender, yet toned and athletic body. You run your fingers over your stomach a couple times before finally deciding to head out.

Out in the pool area, you and Kristy bullshit about various non-Jordan related topics, including Cussler's exam (it was a relief to find out, earlier, that she's got enough bitch in her to go around and it wasn't just saved for your period... back during your old life). After the two of you dive in, swim a few laps, and race, you sit in the shallow end, BSing for a little while longer before you finally get out to dry off.

Kristy follows you and you're a bit shocked as you watch her get out. Kristy's a little bit on the curvier side but it's in a way that definitely adds to her looks, making her look healthy. Her (now wet) red hair and the freckles sprinkled on her cheeks, as well as her money, make her an alluring figure. One moreso as you watch the water run off of her body. Having just stepped out, she's looking mighty inviting right now and you ponder, perhaps, what would happen if you just... took a chance. At least you THINK you do. Your cheeks are burning red and your heart is pounding and you're honestly not sure what's up or down right now. Kristy asks you if anything's wrong but you deny it and quickly dry off before changing and heading home.

That night, as you head off to sleep in order to fully take in Hannah's mind, you're in for the shock of your lifetime, however. Well, second to the accident that caused this, anyway. Hannah's mind is an open book and you take the chance to read the entire thing. The youth basketball league she joined when she was 7, the time she met a rather awkward Jordan when they were both 12, her's and Jordan's first date and first kiss... and also the fact that she's still a virgin. Not for Jordan's lack of trying and nothing to do with "saving herself", rather as much as Hannah liked Jordan she felt, well, nothing for him on a more intimate level. No desire. You find it odd that she would stay with someone for so long when she felt like that, but then another memory shows itself to you.

When she was in the 8th grade, there was a girl named Amy she was good friends. The two regularly hung out both in and out of school. They were practically inseparable. And then, before the start of 8th grade, Amy and her family moved to another state due to her father being in the military. Hannah was absolutely crushed. She had lost not only someone whom she felt was her best friend but also some she felt a deeper connection too... and it hits you: the deal with Amy, the flustered feeling you got in the locker room and when you saw Dana, the pure desire you felt when you saw Kristy getting out of the pool. The fact she was in a relationship with Jordan for so long, despite feeling nothing intimate...

Hannah is a lesbian.

You nearly wake her up in shock. You wanted to move into Hannah because you wanted to stay around the Chamberlain's and their stable home life. But now, well, you moved right into a girl who's struggling with herself. This is too much, you think. You should exit. There's a bunch of other people: Denise, Derek, Timothy, Amanda, Tasha, Kristy... But you stop. This girl is struggling and obviously needs help to get through this. In your time with the Chamberlain's, you've grown attached to them and you feel like you can't just abandon Hannah now. Maybe, though, you can help her. You can BE her, sort this out as her. She'll have the memories, she'll know what happened. But you think that, perhaps, you can spare her the pain of having to go through it on her own.

You have to talk to someone at school tomorrow. But it can't be anyone; it has to be someone you'd trust completely. The very first person to pop into your head is Chris Yves. She's a lesbian so obviously she knows how to deal with stuff like this but more importantly, she's a shoulder for people to lean on or a bastion of advice. Hell, maybe amateur psychiatrist would be a good label. Hell, despite being well known around the school for helping people in personal matters she has a code of strict privacy, even.

Your mind, however, races back to Dana. You still want to tell her what happened and where you are. And now... well, she's a sensible, smart, caring girl you think. You could tell her everything and she'd help you without blabbing it to the entire school. You're sure of it. Maybe you should seek her out.
