At last, Naoto was a second year. She was proud to be one step closer to adulthood, though she does wish her senpai could be there with her on the first day.
As she took her first steps, as a second year, through the gate, she got a feeling. She couldn’t quite put her finger on what it was exactly. Call it a detectives hunch.
For the rest of, what was supposed to be, a warm welcome to the next step in her education, the detective princess was on high alert. She was looking intently at the class, listening intently to those around her, doing everything she could to figure out why she felt the way she did. “Was my hunch wrong?” She thought, “No that’s impossible. My senses have always been keen enough to know when something’s amiss.”
As she left class for lunch, still deep in thought, she found her first clue: Hanako Ohtani was rather thin! “That’s impossible! I saw Hanako-senpai a few weeks ago, and she was still overweight.” Naoto seized the opportunity and went to ask Hanako about her experience.
“Hanako-senpai, would you mind if I asked you a few questions?”
“Hm? Who are you supposed to be?”
“Naoto Shirogane, we’ve attended the same school for about a year now.”
“Oooohhhh now I remember! You’re the one who beat me at the beauty pageant. Well, as you can see, that won’t be happening anymore!”
Naoto absolutely detested trying to hold a conversation with someone like Hanako, but if she was gonna figure out what was going on she’d have to just grin and bear it. “I can definitely see that! You’ve done a wonderful job transforming yourself. If you wouldn’t mind, I’d love to know your secret.”
“Ya I’ll bet you’d like to know, skank! Well sorry, but that’s not gonna happen so if you don’t mind, I’ve got more men to have fall for me. Byeeeeee!” As the formerly obese woman sauntered away, Naoto briefly wondered how someone could hold a grudge that vitriolic for so long; however that mystery would have to wait. Naoto had a more pressing one to investigate.
She would continue her investigation with her fiends who, as she would find out, held another clue. As she went to the roof to discuss the new mystery she saw Yukiko and Rise were a lot different than she remembered. “Rise-san, Yukiko-senpai how are you two doing? You seem… different.”
“Hey Naoto-kun! Ya I don’t know I just kinda woke up like this. Must be a growth spurt.” “Yukiko. I saw you a few days ago. Growth spurts don’t make you this big, this fast! Also, what ‘growth spurt’, you’ve been fully grown since our first year!” Chie was right, growth spurts shouldn’t change someone this much. Yukiko was obese, bigger than Hanako was, before the suspicious change. She was also rather bottom heavy, with two tree trunk like legs supporting her massive frame. Not only was she physically different but she appeared psychologically different too. Before she would really watch her weight and seemed somewhat refined, but now she seemed much more laidback and any time she wasn’t talking she would, greedily, stuff her face with whatever snack she had on hand.
“Oh come on Chie-senpai, you’re over reacting. I’m sure it is just a growth spurt. At least it definitely is for me!” Rise, on the other hand, was much more top heavy, with hammy arms shoveling meaty handfuls of food down her gullet. She was similarly different in her personality. Usually she would put a lot of work into her looks, but now she didn’t seem to care. Her collar was messed up, her cloths lazily thrown on, evidence of her past meals placed all over herself and her hair was a mess, not even in the cute pig tails she would normally have it in.
“Chie-senpai, would you have any info on what’s going on?” She sat there and tried as hard as she could to think of anything. “No! Yukiko was just fine the other day. She didn’t seem any different, but now… I mean look at her! Please tell me you have some kinda info!” Naoto hated seeing Chie of all people so worried. “I might have some kind of a lead, but I’m not 100% sure. Don’t worry I’ll tell you as soon as I find anything out, but in the mean time keep me updated on any further changes.”
After school Naoto looked for Hanako and decided to trail her. She finds the former fatty in the third floor halls, bullying the once thin, popular girl Ai Ebihara. “I guess we can’t call you Ebi anymore, now can we, piggyhara Hahahahahaaa!!!” Ai, just like the others, was rotund, with a prominent double chin and a large belly peaking out from under her strained shirt. Her snide remarks made Ai feel like crying her eyes out.. “Awww come on don’t do that. If you start to cry you’ll ruin your makeup, and that’s the only part of you that seems at all well put together Gahaaa!!!” Hanako has always been a little rude, but this was just cruel. Naoto wished she could jump in and intervene, but the fate of her friends was riding on her staying hidden.
