Chapter #2

You're about to crash land on Planet Zork

    by: scriptboy Author IconMail Icon
Ron looked out the cockpit window and saw the surface of the strange, blue planet rising fast. His small spaceship was being pulled in by the powerful gravity of the planet, which was circling around the bright twin suns along with the double moons. The sight from the cockpit was spectacular; however, Ron didn’t have time to enjoy the view. He was becoming increasingly concerned about the inevitable: Crashing on the strange, unknown planet!

“Voyager 39 to Earth! Voyager 39 to Earth! Losing altitude fast! Traveling at 1100 miles per hour, descending on a small, unknown planet… It appears to have an atmosphere… All readings indicate that the planet will sustain human life form… Presence of water and oxygen have been detected…”

The ship broke through the outer atmosphere and plunged towards the surface in a raging fireball. Ron saw that, in order to survive, he had to eject quickly, and hope he could land somewhere in a safe spot.

“”Voyager 39! I’m going to eject from the craft! Send rescue! Here are final coordinates! Mayday Mayday! Astronaut Ron McGee, Space Administration, ID number 465863. Final coordinates follow this message. Send for rescue! Mayday, Mayday. Altitude 7,000 feet… 6,000 feet… 5,000 feet… Passing over the ocean… Coming over what looks like farmland… swampland, maybe… 3,000 feet… Location coordinates follow… Will eject from craft… Over and out!” was Ron’s last message.

The spacecraft raced towards the ground, when the canopy popped off and the seat ejected, showing the pilot sitting on it. As the spacecraft came down, it splashed into a small lake, which was surrounded by grass and bushes. In the meantime, Ron pulled a pin, which was just under his seat, and a parachute was released from the back of his suit. He unstrapped himself from the chair, and allowed his body to float to the ground, while the chair crashed into the lake below.

After a few moments, Ron landed in a bush. He managed to get himself untangled, but cutting his parachute loose. Then, he tumbled to the ground and lay on the grass, as he turned and saw his space ship, floating to the surface of the lake before him. He considered himself to be very, very lucky.

Ron finally got up and looked around. It was hot and humid. The air was thick and there was a slight breeze. Clearly, there was plenty of water on the planet. There was vegetation. He could live there for awhile. Yes, he could survive. The question is: Where would he live? What would the people on the planet be like?

As soon as he started walking, his ankle hurt like crazy, and it caused him to fall down in the grass.

“Ahhh!” he cried. He hurt his ankle in the fall, and he needed to let it rest. He looked down at his leg. No, he didn’t think he had sprained it, but it did hurt. He just lay on the grass for a few minutes. He was completely exhausted. What was he going to do now?

Then, suddenly, he looked up. There was a noise in the distance. He heard something, or someone approaching.

“Oh, no…” he grumbled.

He was in no condition to run away right now. What if there was some creature, or some dangerous animal lurking behind a tree? He would be doomed!

Something moved in the distance! Ron got on his knees and crawled behind a bush to see what it was. He looked up and began to realize that something large was coming his way. This was not good!

What was he going to do?
