On the way you meet an old woman

As you walk through the woods, on the road towards the labyrinth, you come across an old woman, who must be somewhere in her forties.
She looks at you and laughs.
"Who might you be traveler?"
"I'm Ren, and I am on a quest." you say with pride.
"Oh, are you the one who will save the princess?" she asks with some jest in her voice.
"Princess Emily? No. I'm on a quest to save Chubo, a cat who hath disappeared within the the labyrinth." you tell her.
"Oh, is this cat yours?" she asks.
"No, it is a residents cat, and I am going down into adventure so that it may be re-united with its owner."
"You're a moron." says the woman. "A brave kind soul, but a moron."

You are about to defend your intelligence, when suddenly, the old woman smiles and tosses you something.
"What is it?" you ask.
"It is a hairpin." she says.
"And what's it for?" you ask.
"When the time is right, you will know." she says as she disappears at a fork in the road.

"A hairpin, how very odd." you think.

This is indeed beginning to turn into an offbeat adventure.
