A giant raven head stared at him. Felix felt both terrified and in awe of the creature towering over him. It's black feathers, though ruffled, transitioned magnificently into fine black hair on the torso. There was some sign of the change line, made more apparent because of how unclean the gryphon was from not bathing itself and the beatings. But he did not notice this feature fully as he was focused on where the head was, and slowly tried moving back to the door.
The raven gryphon looked at the small human and saw it shaking. It took her a minute to realize this human was scared of her like she was of other humans. She felt saddened by this, hoping the reason for it not hurting her was more than fear. Carefully, she laid down before the human to try and make herself less intimidating. Slowly she edged her head forward, trying to show she meant no harm to the human.
Felix saw the gryphon laid down before him and realized even lying down, the gryphon towered over Felix by a good foot, probably more. But as he stared into the large eyes, he saw a similarity to himself. The eyes of the gryphon were ones longing for hope of a better life, much like his eyes have when he day dreamed.
"How could a monster have eyes so similar to man's?" Felix wondered, before noticing the beak of the gryphon was right in front of him, stretching as far as it could due to the strong chains around its neck and back legs. The head dropped slightly, as though it was trying to show submission or it wasn't dangerous to him.
