Felix was still afraid and his head screamed at him to get the hell out of there, but Felix's heart said otherwise. He stared into those strange green black panther eyes. The eyes were as big as Felix's head. Hell, the gryphon's raven head was bigger than Felix's entire body. The gryphon's eyes were so sad. "Those eyes look so much like my own," Felix realized, "But how? It's an animal. It shouldn't have the intelligence of a... or does it?"
The gryphon continued to try and reach out for Felix. It's beak was already over Felix's legs, but the beak never came down to grab his legs and drag him into the darkness. The beak just kept stretching to Felix's chest which it couldn't reach. The gryphon made strange and very sad sounds that Felix couldn't describe. They made him feel very sad inside, however, and reminded him of his own sorrows and his own life.
Felix wasn't thinking straight and he did something that he would never have done in a right state of mind. Felix lifted his arm and started stretching his hand towards the gryphonn. The gryphon began stretching to Felix's hand and continued to make the strange noises. The gryphon was choking from the ring and the chains around its neck due to the stretching. So, Felix reached out his hand faster and touched the raven beak.

The gryphon wanted comfort form the human so desperately that it was choking itself to reach out to it. When the human began lifting its arm, the gryphon became excited and she continued to desperately fight against the chains for the human's hand. Eventually, the human placed his hand on her beak and she soon found comfort. The gryphon couldn't feel the hand on her beak, but she could see it on her beak and she began to know that there were some good humans out there.
The gryphon noticed that the human was still shaking slightly and it was still afraid. Yet, the human held its ground and stroked her beak. Hoping that the human would realize she meant it no harm soon, the gryphon placed her head on the ground in front of the human.

When the gryphon's head was on the ground and the gryphon's eyes were nearly level with Felix, Felix snapped out of his daze. He saw his hand was still on the gryphon's beak and he was kneeling by it. Felix became frightened once more when he saw his hand so close to the giant beak, and it caused him to shoot straight up.
As soon as Felix took two steps backward, the gryphon made the sad sounds again. Felix stopped in his track and stared at the gryphon's eyes. To his surprise, the gryphon had tears watering from its eyes down its cheeks to the stone floor. Felix stood there in shock wondering what to do. "It doesn't want me to leave," Felix thought.
"Because it wants you as its lunch," another voice argued.
"But, it had the perfect time to eat me when I was in a daze," Felix reasoned, "It might want me just for company."
"Do you hear yourself?" the other voice asked, "It's a giant beast. It doesn't have the intelligence like humans do. It can't be reasoned with, and it only sees you as a possible meal."
"But if it's not like humans, then how can it cry, and why does it have the same kind of eyes as me?" Felix's heart questioned his brain. His brain couldn't think up a reason why the gryphon was crying and silence only followed the question. The only thing that broke the silence was the gryphon who was continuing to make the sad sounds that combined that of a cat and a bird.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------
"Please don't leave," the gryphon pleaded, "You're the only human that seems to care about me. Please." The human obviously couldn't understand her words, but it was quiet possible the human understood the meaning due to her tone and emotion. Silence followed and the gryphon continued to let the tears fall from her face as the human looked to the doors and then back at the gryphon.
To the gryphon's utter amazement, the human started walking back to her head. It was the gryphon who was in shock this time as the human knelt beside her head and placed his hand in her cheek to stoke it. The gryphon began crying out of pure joy and closed its eyes while leaning her head slightly in the human's direction.

Felix stroked the smooth black feathers on the gryphon's cheek and he began to feel more comfortable around it as the seconds went by. The gryphon leaned its head closer, but Felix understood what it wanted. Felix had seen the gryphon's eyes when he had approached it. The gryphon had still been crying, but its eyes were filled with a happiness that Felix couldn't have imagined existed. The gryphon's eyes were closed at the moment and Felix knew the creature was crying from happiness. Felix hugged what he could of the place where the beak met and he continued to stroke the feather while doing so.
"I understand," Felix told the gryphon while hugging it, "You just want someone to care about you. You want someone's comfort to escape the reality of what seems like a horrible nightmare. You want a friend."
Felix knew all to well what the gryphon was going through, because he had gone through it when he first arrived in the castle and he was still partially going through it.
