Felix dreaded this moment. He had to go into the dragon's cell and feed it once more and fill up the bowl with water. He hated every time he went in there because the dragon was something he feared more than Lord William. The dragon was a vicious creature and it had tried to kill him the first time he entered the cell. All he was trying to do was feed it and it had to go and try killing him for no apparent reason. Plus, every time he heard stories of guards being killed by the creature, scared Felix even more. he sure didn't want to be entering a cell of a creature that seemed to have no remorse in ripping people to shreds.
Although he was frightened of the dragon, he knew he had to go in there and feed it. Otherwise, it would be certain death for him by Lord William's orders. At least with the dragon there was a possibility that Felix could get in and out of the cell quick enough for the dragon not to harm him, and that was exactly what Felix did. He continued to enter the cell everyday at least two to three times a day. He would quickly push the cart over to the dragon without going all the way to the edge of its reach. (He would just get far enough so that he could push it away from him and it would enter the dragon's reach. He would also have the filled water on the cart too.)
It was evening and it was time for the dragon's last dinner. Felix's entire body shook nervously at the guard unlocked the cell door for him. Every second that passed was more and more nerve raking for Felix and with his pale skin, some would have thought he had died of pure terror. Felix took many deep breaths in order to calm down enough to go into the cell and quickly push in the cart.
Once the door opened, Felix was ready and he hurried as fast as he could to the dragon. Luckily, the dragon was always less aggressive during the night runs. However, the dragon was still at the edge its reach waiting for Felix to approach. The dragon stood tall and proud which made it very large and intimidating to Felix even though he had over heard from the guards that the dragon was only about Felix's own age. The dragon was easily twenty feet tall, maybe more and it was impossible not afraid of something as large as that that was still growing.

The dragon was extremely curious of the human that kept feeding it. The human was obviously frightened out of its mind. Yet, it still entered the dragon's territory. The dragon wanted to know the reason behind the human's behavior, even if it meant capturing it and letting it stay in its territory for a little while longer.
The dragon paced as it always did in wait for the humans to come. It had the timing down pat since it happened at the same times every day. Soon, the dragon found the door opening around evening. The dragon knew it would be the last visit of the humans and it knew it would be the human that brought the food and drink. The dragon knew that the human would try to get in and out of its territory as fast as it could and the dragon devised a crafty plan in capturing it.
The dragon usually lied in wait at the edge using the full length of the chains that held it to the ground. This time, however, it didn't use the whole length. It was hoping the human would be going to fast to realize that the dragon had done this and would enter its reach.
As usual, the human rushed to a certain spot, the same as usual, and pushed. The cart usually made it to the dragon, but this time the dragon was farther back and the cart didn't reach it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------
To Felix's horror, the cart didn't reach it to the dragon's paw like it usually did. This meant that he had to go closer and push it again. He was in too much of a hurry and too frightened to see that the dragon was not at the edge. Felix hurried and as soon as Felix's hands touched the handle of the cart, he noticed the dragon hurry to the same spot he was in. He was within the dragon's reach!
The dragon's hand tried to slash at Felix. Well, Felix thought the dragon was trying to slash when in actuality, it was trying to capture him. Felix suddenly, pushed himself away from the cart which caused the bowl of water to fall and spill on the ground. However, it kept Felix from being hit by the paw. Felix scrambled to his feet and hurried to the exit.
He was soon out of the dragon's reach, but he ran into Lord William. Felix fell backward again and was surprised to see his master in the cell. "Master, what are you...?" Felix began to ask.
"I've come to check on you progress. It's a good thing I did, because you had spilled the water bowl," Lord William replied.
"I'm sorry master, I'll get another one and..." Felix started to apologize.
"You will not get another one. You will fill that one up again," Lord William ordered.
"But mater," Felix argued, "The bowl is in the dragon's reach. It will kill me and..."
"Does it look like I care if you live or die. You are nothing but a slave," Lord William replied.
"Please, just let me get another bowl and..." Felix pleaded, but his pleads fell short when Lord William smacked him across the face once more.
Felix fell to the ground and Lord William said, "You will fill the bowl up with this water." Lord William set a jug of water by Felix before kicking Felix in the stomach twice. "You will not leave this room and you will not be fed until the dragon is fed. The dragon is much more useful to me than your pathetic life."
Lord William stormed out of the room and Felix cried in a curled ball for a long moment.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------
The dragon was shocked at what it saw. The human was beat by the evil man, and it gave the dragon an answer to why the human kept going in its territory. "The human has no other choice. That evil one is making the human feed me and give me water or it beats the human," the dragon realized, "The evil man is doing the same thing to the human as he is doing with me. The evil man keeps trying to make me do things I don't want to do by hurting me. That's what he must be doing to this human too, but the human has given into the evil man, because it can't handle pain like I can."
Eventually, the human got back up with a jug of water which only conformed the dragon's speculation. The human clutched its side, obviously badly injured. It was terrified, yet it continued to approach the dragon. Eventually, the human knelt beside the bowl and poured in the water. The dragon only looked down at the human as it collapsed after the task was done. The dragon lowered its head closer and the human was obviously unconscious.
