The giant thirteen year old nodded. The crowds of people began to circle around his feet, one of them curious enough to touch and feel his bare foot. Mike shuddered as he felt the contact, so impeccably small yet distinctly cold. Meanwhile his little passenger felt his friend's body shake, and automatically looked to Mike's face for anything wrong.
"You okay?" He asked, and Mike offered him a small smile.
'I'm fine," Mike reassured, "Let's go."
As gingerly as possible, Mike lifted his left foot over the crowd, causing them to all freeze in panic. The bigger teen frowned at the fear-filled faces that stared back at him - he wasn't a monster. After getting one foot out of the circle, his left foot landing with a small tremor on the ground, he swung his right hip to bring his right foot up and parallel to his other one. The pair watched in awe as the impact of his feet hitting the ground temporarily lifted everyone and everything close to him a couple of inches off the ground.
Their awe didn't last for long. Moments after the stomp, panic ensued. The woman that screamed earlier could be seen dialing frantically for help. Some people ran to the comfort of their own homes, others ran and drove out the neighborhood, probably to alert the masses. Mike and Josh realized that they didn't have a lot of time.
"Which way?" Mike barked as he frantically turned.
Josh shied away from his friend's voice, covering his ears as it shook him through to his entire core. The people below only panicked louder and more violent as they heard the behemoth speak, some crying while others peed their pants. Mike looked onto the crowd, and back to his friend sheepishly, his features softening as he brought his voice down a couple of notches.
"Sorry," he said, and despite his fear, Josh gave a reassuring thumbs up.
"We should head west," Josh responded, shaking despite his certainty. "They're mountains and caves up there,"
Mike was bewildered.
"How do you know?" He asked, his eyebrows furrowing.
Josh scoffed, "I may have tried to run away from home a couple of times," he said, grinning as his shaking subsided.
Mike offered a grin back. "West it is!"
The 40 foot tall teenager ran off with his friend, the ground shaking with every passing step. As his pace hastened and he got further and further away from the place his friend once called home, Mike realized that they might never be able to go back again.
