Maria continues on her way, mood darkened by hunger. The lovely scenery surrounding her has become far less lovely through no fault of its own; the world always seems emptier when one has an empty stomach... For Maria, anyway. She stopped and sighed.
"Why didn't I pack any food? How can I forget food?" Maria asked herself. The orange vixen cursed her short-sightedness; she knew she was at least ten miles from the nearest town or village, and she certainly wasn't counting on finding anything on the way... But, oh well. Nothing to do but to soldier on. Maria trudges onward.
A few hundred yards later, though, she smells... Something. As a fox, she is somewhat more perceptive of such things as scents and sounds, She stops dead in her tracks to catch a deeper whiff of that "something," raising her muzzle skyward and inhaling deeply. Her nostrils flared a bit as she ascertained where the scent was coming from... In a few more moments, she'd be able to ascertain not just where it was, but also what it was...
