This choice: She gets up to leave; no food here, why stay? • Go Back...Chapter #5She gets up to leave; no food here, why stay? by: Unknown Watching the flowers dance in the soft summer wind was a relaxing sight, but it didn't fill Maria's empty belly. She decided that she had enough; there was nothing to eat, so, why stay?
She left the pretty meadow behind and headed off in search of food. As she walked, a strange smell filled her nostrils; a sent of fire, burn wood and...FOOD! Maria dashed off towards the area she presumed the food was being cooked; she ran deeper and deeper into the forest, through thick under grows dominated by looming trees.
The sent became stronger and the smoke of thee cooking-fire was visible in the air. When she was only a few feet away from the fire, she stopped and investigated her surroundings. She was indeed very far in the woods; thick flora grew around her, the trees' leaves so thick that it almost blocked out all the sunlight.
Maria began to feel nervous. This was quite a eerie scene. But she reminded herself that she was a warrior, straightened herself up and headed boldly towards the fire, that was casting its yellow glow through the shrubs.
Though she was brave, Maria couldn't help but be careful. She stuck her head through the nearest bush and observed the scene before her; there was a fire (obviously), a big pot with bubbling stew suspended over it, a pitched tent that was made from an assortment of wild animal skins, and a very large, muscular creature sitting by his belongings.
From his pointy, sharp looking horns, his flat muzzle, big snout - that contained a golden nose-ring -, and brown fur, Maria could only identify this furry as one thing - a minotaur. He was dressed in a piece of loincloth, but other clothing - such as armor laying next to him - suggested that he was a warrior.
At the moment, this large beast was sharpening his deadly axe; a deadly weapon that looked that it had tasted its fair share of blood.
Any creatures' first impulse was to back away slowly, then, when they where far away enough, run like hell! But not this fox; Maria's stomach demanded food, and she was going to get just that.
She a merged from the bushes. The minotaur head immediately rose in alarm, hauled his axe in both hands, and adopted a battle-stance.
The creature stared at Maria with a fierce stare, his yellow eyes penetrating right through her body. The fox, stopping in her tracks, regretted disturbing this mighty minotaur, but likely her stomach gave her another injection if courage when it growled.
Maria opened her muzzle to say something, but the bovine beated her to it: "What do you want, fox?"
His voice deep and intimidating. A sign that this creature didn't like to be messed with. Maria gulped.
"I smelled food... and I thought that I -"
She was cut off when the minotaur spoke again: "That you could have some?" He studied Maria with his yellow eyes, and she couldn't help but feel naked as she stood awkwardly there.
"Y-yes," Maria stuttered.
The minotaur raised an eyebrow, snorted, and sat back down. "Then you may have some," he finally said.
Maria could not believe her luck. She did not hesitate, sat next to him and waited for the food to be finished boiling.
