Alex pulls up to the house and pauses for a instant before getting out of the car. He’d been there so many times that he could almost see her sitting there on the front porch waiting for him. However, after a few moments, he snaps out it and walks to the front door. He rings the doorbell but no one answers, to his surprise.
"What's up with that?" he asks himself. He then knocks on the door but still no reply. Looking around, he see's his truck so he knows he’s home. He then tries the doorknob and notices that it is unlocked.
He walks inside and can hear the TV playing in the background.
“Hey Tony, you in here?” he says, hoping for an answer. He hears someone bumping around in the living room. With that in mind, he follows the sound to see Tony sitting on the couch looking through a photo album. He doesn’t notice Alex, almost like he’s in a daze. Alex lays his stuff on the floor, and walks over to sit down beside him.
"Mr. Smith?" Alex asks as gently as he could.
Tony's eyes widen and he snaps out of it, like he was waking up from a dream. He then turns to Alex and gives as small smile.
“Oh hey Alex. I didn’t hear you come in” he says.
Alex smiles and responds, “Its cool, the door was unlocked. How you been?” He gives a weary sigh, and looks down at the pictures.
“Okay I guess. Just hanging around the house” he says. Alex then looks down at the pictures. He could tell that Megan was included extensively in these photos.
“Can I see?” he asks.
“Sure go ahead” he says as he hands the book to Alex. There were pictures of Megan when she was five or six. He smiles and laughs to himself.
"Wow, she was so cute. Where was this?” he asks, pointing to a specific picture.
"Oh, that was when we went to the mountains” he says with a smile, making Alex smile as well. It was good to see him smile again.
“What about this one?” he asks, pointing to another one
“Oh that was her eighth birthday party” he resplies, still smiling as he was going through the memories of his daughter.
“And this one?” Alex asks again. The two of them ended going through the entire book, talking and laughing. Well, Alex was laughing; Tony was smiling and occasionally chuckling to himself. It was an improvement over the more recent days.
He then turns to Alex and says, “Hey, thanks for this. I know everyone’s worried about me. I’m actually kind of worried about myself. I just can’t believe she's gone. I can’t believe that I’ll never get to see her again. I’ll never get to talk to her again.” He was acting as though he was about to cry. Then, he turned up to Alex and said, "but having you here makes me feel better. It means alot, Alex”. Alex smiles and put his hand on Tony's shoulder.
“Hey that’s what I’m here for” Alex says to him. He smiles and lets out a loud yawn.
"Man, what time is it?" he asks as Alex looks up at the clock.
"Wow, its already 12:30" Alex says.
"Well it’s been fun, but I’m going to try to get some sleep. Good night" he says as he walks to his room.
"Night" Alex says as he lays down on the couch and goes to sleep. He felt happy that he was able to make Tony feel at least a little better about the situation.
'Hopefully, there will more that I can do' he thought to himself as he fell asleep.
