After drying off, the three girls got dressed. Well, Amy and Lilly got dressed; Christie was too small for anything but her shirt, which now covered more of her than it was supposed to. Then, they sat down in their base camp, facing each other.
"What could be causing this?" Lilly asked.
"I have no idea," Christie replied. "All I know is, my shoes and bra felt looser on my way here. At the time, I thought maybe the humidity was stretching them; I guess that's not the case." She picked up her water bottle. "Can I get some help?"
Amy took the bottle, then paused. "How long have you been drinking this?"
Christie shrugged. "Since we started out."
"Since right before you started shrinking," Amy elaborated.
"You think maybe there's something in that water?" Christie asked. "Something that did this to me?"
"It stands to reason. People don't just start shrinking out of the blue." She sighed. "I guess this means we've got to cut this trip short; no pun intended."
"Why?" Christie asked. "We just got here."
"But you can't do the things we came up here to do anymore. Your feet are too small for your shoes, so no hiking. You could soon be too small to hold a rod, so no fishing. All that's left is skinny-dipping, and you can't do that all the time. Besides, maybe they can find some way to reverse this."
Christie sighed. "I guess you're not going to let this go."
The three of them stood up. Christie, they realized, was now only waist high.
