Chapter #3

Sarah finds a fairy able to grant wishes.

Sarah ended up confronting Vanessa a few more times during the rest of the day. It always started and ended the same. Vanessa was actually threatened by Sarah, so she would insult her for no reason. This would cause Sarah to respond intelligently, insulting her, Vanessa wouldn't even understand the insult, and not be offended, and Sarah would feel as though she had somehow lost the confrontation.

After school, though, Sarah was fuming when she saw Vanessa in the arms of her ex boyfriend, Michael. Michael and Sarah dated for about 6 months, and Sarah fell hard for him. Sarah liked to move slow, and this frustrated Michael, who left her. Sarah hated herself for liking a guy like that, but hated Vanessa even more for picking him up from her so quickly.

Sarah went home, pissed off, and slightly depressed. Sarah was the only daughter of her parents, who were divorced. She lived with her mom, and never saw her jerk of a dad. Her mom was usually at work by the time Sarah got home, so she usually had a few hours to herself before her mom got home, except for her cat, Buddy. She got home, only to have her cat follow her up the stairs. "Hey Buddy!" She said, loving her cat. She had it ever since she was 12.

The cat set something on the ground in front of her, some small animal. "Ew what is that!" She said, thinking it was her cat giving her another "gift" of a dead mouse or bird. When she looked closer, she was shocked. It was human like...with...wings? It was a fairy! "Holy shit!" She said. It looked unconscious, with a few wounds from the cat's teeth. When she looked closer, she saw it...she was still breathing. She looked around quickly, seeing that the neighborhood was empty, but couldn't find a clean cloth to wrap the fairy in. She quickly took off her blouse, leaving her in a small tank top that she wore under it, and picked the fairy up, and rushed inside her house.

She ran to the kitchen, unsure of what to do. This was a freaking fairy! She couldn't just let it die, but she didn't know how to take care of it to save it's life. She ran to her first aid kit, and grabbed some stuff. She quickly rinsed the fairy off with warm water, trying her best to be as gentle as possible. She used the rubbing alcohol on her wounds, and then wrapped her up in tiny shreds of bandages. Her cat was meowing in annoyance the entire time, trying to get it's prize back. Sarah softly picked the fairy up, and took it to her room, and closed the door behind her, not letting the cat in.

She set it on her bed, still on her blouse, and waited. It still seemed to be breathing, but she wasn't sure what to do. She looked online, trying to find anything that could help her. After about 20 minutes, the fairy woke up. "What, where am I!" Sarah heard in a high voice.

Sarah turned around quickly, seeing the fairy walking around, and attempting to fly. It was still weak, and the bandages were weighing it down a bit. "Hold on! Please!" Sarah said. "You are hurt don't move you need to rest."

The fairy scoffed. "Fairies don't need rest!" She shouted. "I didn't need your help anyway!"

"My cat would've killed you, just calm down." Sarah said, just then the cat meowed outside the door.

The fairy jumped and startled. "It's YOUR cat! I hate him!"

"Buddy? I love Buddy...You must've bothered him first."

"It always tries to eat me!" The fairy exclaimed.

"But...couldn't you just...fly up away from it?" Sarah asked. "You know...in the air....where cats can't go?" Sarah's sarcasm grew a bit.

The fairy paused. "Okay so what, I mess with him, and this time, I got careless."

Sarah paused, realized what she was arguing with. "What are you?" She said, confused.

"I told you, I'm a fairy." She said.

"Oh..." Sarah said, still confused. "I'm...um...Sarah."

The fairy paused. "Why are you being so nice to me?"

"Because I'm not a mean person?" Sarah said. "Why are you being so mean, I just saved your life."

The fairy paused again. "I'm sorry, I just don't trust you humans." The fairy said, and began to untangle her bandages, the wounds under already mostly healed. "I guess...Thank you. Your cat is a jerk though."

Sarah smiled a bit. "No problem...I guess I can't just keep you in here..." Sarah said, and opened her window. "It was...um...nice meeting you. It has been pretty cool. I mean, who can say the met a fairy!"

The fairy smiled. "I'm Petty. That's my name. It was nice meeting you Sarah..." Petty was about to fly out of the window, when she heard the cat meow outside the door. The fairy paused again. "Look, I really appreciate you saving my life."

Sarah smiled. "You are welcome."

"I guess I owe you, huh?" Petty said, flying away from the window. Petty really just wanted to make some friends.

"No no, I couldn't just let anything I found die." Sarah explained.

"No it's the least I could do." Petty explained. "Listen, fairies have lots of powers, relating to nature, and love. The life cycle, you know?" Sarah stood there, and shook her head.

"I have no idea what you are talking about."

"Birth, growth, love, then death. Fairies don't really have powers over birth and death, but we do have powers over love and growth." Petty explained. "But...I'm not really good with magic yet."

"What can you do?" Sarah asked.

"Basic stuff. I could grow things and heal them."

"Grow things? Like plants?"

"Plants, animals, anything that's alive. But I guess that really isn't useful to you."

"So you can change my body, or anyone elses, into whatever you want?"

"Not completely, but I can make things youthful or bigger." Petty explained. She didn't know that humans had such a focus on outward appearance, and thought her abilities were completely useless.

"That's amazing!" Sarah said. "Could you..."
