Betty was disappointed to find that not her paycheck, but a note from the manager was all that was in the envelope. She sighed and unfolded the letter. It was written in bright red ink and said:
Betty, I pray you are still alive.
I had a feeling you would come back to the diner at some point, you would never turn down a paycheck even if you had to cut through a horde of zombies to get it. Unfortunately, there's no paycheck here and all of the rest of us have left for the warehouses downtown. We've received word that one warehouse in particular belonged to a gang who ran a chop-shop and we hope to use some spare parts to make us an armored vehicle that can get us out of here. I've made sure to include the directions and address on the back of this paper. I doubt you'd be willing to hike across the city to join us, but I wanted to make sure you knew where we went. Just... whatever you do, stay away from the abandoned factories on Oak street. There's a nest of... things there... they look human, but are zombies as well. They ambushed three guys we sent off to investigate, only one made it back. Betty, if you see something that looks human, but isn't... run! I'm sorry, I know this is dragging on and I'm sure you don't have the time...
Just be careful... and Betty? I'm sorry, we all are.
Assistant manager Drake
Betty re-read the letter one last time before turning it over. Sure enough, on the back were instructions on how to get to the warehouses downtown using the safest routes possible. "Well, I guess I'd better get going... thanks Drake." Betty said as she walked back into the downpour outside. She had planned on meeting up with other survivors at the factory... well, that plan was shot to hell now. Or was it? Drake and his buddies had always picked on her and made her the butt of several of their "practical jokes." She liked to think they wouldn't be so petty if her life was on the line, but...
Suddenly, a chorus of growls sounded off in the distance, the undead drew closer by the second...
