Coach Z was waiting near the bleachers of the high school football stadium when Jack came running onto the field carrying his helmet in his hand and wearing his full football uniform, including his harness, his pads, his pants, and his cleats.
"Okay everyone!" the coach shouted. "Jack is going to be our Quarterback today, for he is trying out for the position. Let's line up and run a few plays! Let's go go go!" he said before he blew the whistle.
The boys got into formation and Jack lined up so that he was standing in the back, ready to receive the ball as soon as the ball was snapped at the start of the play.
The player then snapped the ball to Jack, who quickly scanned the field for a receiver who was open. This time, he spotted one, who was running near the sideline. Jack pulled his arm to the back and then hurled the ball into the air, sending it spinning into the sky as it ascended and then descended towards the open player in a long, deep spiral.
The boy caught the ball using both hands and started running until he got tackled by a player from the other team, ending the play with a whistle. It was a gain of twelve yards, which was enough for a first down.
The boys lined up for a second time, and Jack waited for the snap. This time, when he scanned the field, none of the players were open and everyone was being blocked. So Jack took off running towards the endzone with the ball tucked between both hands as he ran as fast as he could, with three players chasing after him as they tried to tackle him and prevent him from reaching the endzone.
Jack was too fast for them and he soared across the goal line, reaching the endzone and scoring the easy touchdown!
"Impressive..." Coach Z mumbled, as he watched Jack from the sidelines.
