Chapter #3

I'm no farmer's ox!

You're done pushing this stupid wheel like some kind of farmer's ox! The insult fills you with a sudden overwhelming bout of rage and you roar with fury, grabbing the handle and shaking it up and down, until the iron-reinforced log-sized handle that runs through a hole in the six foot thick stone column cracks and splinters, the iron reinforcements bending and snapping under the tremendous pressure.

The handle breaks free and you realize you are now holding a decent battering ram. You can't quite reach the door and there is still no way for you to break the adamantine chain or shackles, but maybe if you could climb to the top of the center post...

You heft the huge broken handle until it is vertical and then you thrust it upward into the iron grate, about five feet over your head. It clangs and rattles. You hit it again, and again, and again. Finally, on about the tenth pissed-off blow, a five foot section of the iron grate buckles and pops to the side, leaving an opening in the ceiling above.

Exhausted, you let the log-sized handle drop tot he ground with a thud and you catch your breath.

Now what?

The chain is above the cross handles to your left and right, but it's still draped under the handle opposite the one you broke. You might be able to break or pull out the opposite handle and then...

You could try to bash through the rest of the ceiling grates so that you could use the chain as leverage and climb the center column into the area above you; or you could just climb up and see if there is anything up there work breaking the rest of the grates for; or you could just wait for the goblin that brings your food - maybe he has the key to your shackles...
