Arianna kept her eyes forward as she walked along the wood lined path through the swamp. Though she could almost feel the dozens of eyes watching her she kept walking forward, making sure to keep the white flag of truce she carried in sight of those eyes. It seemed like a lifetime ago that her father, the king, had declared war on the dridders that lived in the swamp she now trekked through. But the war hadn’t gone well for the humans, the dridders were too strong, smart, and knew the terrain of their swamp too well.
Now it came down to her to make peace. Her father did not like the idea, but in the end he agreed sending her would get the best results, as the dridders had more respect for females.
Soon the village of web-domes that the dridders lived in came into view. No sooner had she taken another step toward the village when an armored dridder leaped from a tree directly into her path. “Who are you, and what do you want, human?” The dridder growled, Arianna couldn’t tell if it was male or female.
“I am Princess Arianna,” Arianna said, trying to sound as important as she could, “I have come to speak with your leader to bring an end to our war.”
The dridder looked at her for a long time, before nodding. “Very well, follow me.” It said before turning and heading for a large web-dome at least three-times the size of the others. Arianna dutifully obeyed and followed. Soon they entered to web, Arianna was amazed by the structure. “Wait here.’ The dridder eventually said, stopping and pointing to the ground, “Our negotiator will come shortly.”
Arianna nodded as the dridder vanished into a hole in a nearby wall. She waited for what felt like an eternity, but it would be worth it to end the war. In due course another dridder emerged from the hole. To Arianna, it appeared to be…
