As he got close, Jose saw that the sign said, "Elevators closed for maintenance."
"Aw heck," Jose said out loud.
"Jose, come over here," a voice said from the left, and Jose turned his head to see another accountant from the 5th floor seated at a table - his friend and fellow fat guy, Chris.
"Chris, whatcha doing? The elevators are DOA, how're we going to get back to work?"
"Sit right down, brother fat accountant, and enjoy telecommuting!" Chris replied with a grin. "I got Shi - you know, the new guy who's always bouncing around? - to run up the stairs and bring down our laptops down. No way am I going up six flights of stairs!"
"Me neither!" replied Jose. "This is a great idea! Where's Shi now?"
"Upstairs getting files," Chris replied. "But sit down, take a load off, power up, and we'll show old man Brennan we can be productive anywhere!"
Jose was soon engrossed in planning for the latest expansion of the restaurant chain - he hardly noticed Shi, and later their assistant Lisa, putting plates of appetisers within reach. About four thirty, the security guard came round and said, "The elevators are working again."
"That's OK," Chris replied, "no sense relocating for only 30 minutes work."
