"Spyro," Cynder said, looking at him with her piercing green eyes, her expression surprisingly suspicious, "There's something I need to tell you, and it's kinda serious."
The purple dragon felt his heart speed up in his chest. "Go on," he said earnestly.
"I've been feeling sick lately, and recently I've been having these weird mood swings," she continued, turning her gaze to the floor, "When I went to a doctor to check me out, they told me that I'm ...I'm ..."
Cynder turned her eyes back to his. "P-pregnant!"
The word struck Spyro like a blow. His eyes widened in shock and his jaw went slack. For many years they have tried to have children, all their attempts proving fruitless in the end.
Cynder blamed herself mostly, saying that it was the dark magic from her youth that severely damaged her womb, but Spyro wasn't always so sure about that; they never went for a checkup to make sure.
Hell, for all that the purple dragon knew he could have been the problem.
But now their fears were put to rest. Spyro and Cynder would finally have the family they always wanted.
"T-that's great!" Spyro managed to say after awhile, but his face was still tight with disbelief.
"Isn't it?" Cynder said, her expression turning into one of delight. "Doctor said that there will be one or two eggs. I can't wait!"
She hugged him, but Spyro did not move, standing as still as a flag post. He should be happy, he knew, but why did he feel a ominous presence hanging over this pregnancy?
