"Hey Sarah, you mind if I use your toilet?" Jake asked, as an idea formed in his mind.
Sarah shrugged as she sat at her computer desk checking emails.
Jake took out the 'X-39' device from his jacket and walked down the corridor towards the stairs.
Peering over the bannister, he watched as Samantha and her mother argued about cigarettes, unaware he was looking on.
"These things will kill you. I wont let that happen while I am here." her mother shouted.
With the device, Jake set the device to Mind and pointed it towards the family members. As he scanned the device over Samantha in her leather jacket, a submenu appeared, listing all traits of the girl. As he tapped into Addictions, he saw Smoking appear. Pressing Copy on the device, he walked away back into Sarah's room as the verbal fight continued.
"You were quick." Sarah moaned, as she focused on uploading Facebook photos from her PC.
"Yeah. So what do you fancy doing?" Jake inquired, as he sat on the bed behind Sarah. As he pointed the device at Sarah, he selected Paste.
"You know, I fancy a smoke." Sarah replied as she faced Jake.
Wow, Jake thought, not expecting the change to work.
"C'mon - I know where Sam keeps her secret stash." Sarah replied.
Jake, bewildered, followed Sarah into Samantha's room, while the noises of argument echoed throughout the house. Sarah removed a pack of Kools from behind her sister's wall mirror.
"Hey Mom, I'm heading out, down the park." Sarah shouted as the friends walked out as the fight raged on.
Ten minutes later, Sarah and Jake sat on the swings of the deserted play park.
Without further thought, Sarah removed the pack and placed a cigarette between her lips. Removing the zippo lighter from the pack, Sarah lit up and took a deep opening drag.
"Oh my god, that's amazing!" Sarah gasped as she exhaled a cone of smoke towards the sky.
Jake noted Sarah exhibited no negative reaction to the toxic smoke entering her pink lungs, while the nicotine surged through her veins like a freight train.
As Sarah sat and smoked silently, Jake noted how different his best friend now appeared with a cigarette between her long fingers. She looked like someone who had smoked for years, puffing clouds of smoke into the air casually.
