The rain was pounding as the trio made their way to the front door of the imposing building. As they approached, the icy water felt like it was pulling the heat right out of their bodies as they wrapped their arms around themselves for warmth. Sam pounded on the large door then looked back to Alex.
“B...b...beats staying in t...t...the car, huh?” Sam shivered.
“Hey, it w...w...as your idea,” Alex spit back weakly.
After a short time, the door opened. Standing just inside, was on older woman in a maid uniform.
“Hi, our c...car broke d...down. Could we use your phone?” Asked Sam, pulling some of his long black hair out of his eyes.
The maid's eyes were wide when she almost yelled. “Get in here this instant, you three will catch the death of cold out there like that.”
She rushed them inside like a mother hen with her chicks. The three stepped into the main entrance area had everything you’d expect to see: chairs, coffee table, big clocks, there was even a large creepy portrait of a Black haired woman sitting on a chair with a brown haired man standing behind her, touching her shoulders. There was something odd about that painting, but they couldn't put their collective finger on it. The main feature of the room was the two staircases leading to a balcony. Everything was immaculately clean.
“Now, I'll be right back. Stay here, please.” She said with a smile With that she quickly scooted out of the room leaving the boys dripping dry, hugging their chests.
