Emily pushed the door open and entered rather nervously. “Um is this the detention hall?” she asked.
“It is, has been, and always shall be.” The teacher replied with a voice that all but screamed she was not looking forward to the next hour. “Just hand me your detention slip and we’ll be on our way.”
Emily took the slip she’d been given from her stack of books and papers and handed it to the lady. She looked it over, “Emily Reynolds, sophomore, in for tardiness, but otherwise a good student. Well, at least I’ll have one student in here who’ll behave properly. Ms. Caster, I’ll be your supervisor, and for these other… delightful students.” Ms. Caster said.
Emily looked at the other assembled students. There were about half-a-dozen others; boys & girls, and at least one of each social category. And all of them looked like the types to be in detention often. Emily went to a seat at the front, close to Ms. Caster’s desk, everyone else was towards the back so she had plenty of space.
