Back to getting ready and on with the wedding

As you stagger back gaining control of your panic, the door swings open again. This time it is Jackie's younger sister, Judy. She is a perky, slender, average-sized redhead, at least that's the color she choose for the wedding. She's been experimenting with her looks since you first met her when she was a sophomore in high school - she's a senior now. For a while you even thought Jackie had two sisters since she was always in different styles as well as hair colors the few times you saw her. You're pretty sure she tried to make you think that as well, though she would never admit it when you asked.

"Gerry! What are you doing in here?" she exclaimed and grabbed your arm. "Don't you know it's bad luck for the groom to see his bride on the wedding day?" She drags you to the door as you stumble and mumble.

"I, ... but Terri, er ... Jackie, .. I mean, ... we need to, ..."

"No excuses, Gerry," she adamantly says trying to push you through the doorway as you hold onto the sides.

"Don't worry, Gerry," comes Jackie's voice that you know is really Terri. "We'll work this out. You just do exactly what was practiced and everything will be fine. OK, honey?"

"But, ... you and ... not real, ... how ..." you stammer until Judy quits pushing and starts tickling.

"I didn't want to have to do this," Judy smirks knowing that you are especially ticklish. "But you heard Jackie, now vamoose!"

You can't hold on and drop your arms to try to fight her off, but you know you can't win. Even your twelve year old nice, Amanda, your sister's daughter can turn you to a helpless baby when she tickles you. You teeter out the door. As it goes shut, you hear Jackie's voice again.

"Act like nothing happened."

"How can I act like nothing happened?" you wonder but are shaken from those thoughts as your best man takes hold of you.

"Wrong way, buddy. It's time we got you ready."

He drags you across the hall and the next couple hours fly by as you are completely distracted getting dressed and joking with all the groomsmen. By the time you all snake through the basement and up the back stairs to the alter, you are too nervous just about the wedding to think of what happened. You just keep going over the rehearsal in your head so you don't make a mistake. First you will watch your best man seat your mom then the procession will start. The bridesmaids including Judy and then the matron of honor, Terri as Jackie had wanted, will come in one by one. Finally Jackie escorted by her grandfather. There was no way Terri was letting Jackie's jerk of a father be involved. You would then turn and face the minister and ...

Suddenly, you hear, "It's time," and are pushed forward. You stare at the floor as you come in to make sure you stop at the right spot. When you look up, the whole place is a blur until you see your mom and best friend come down the aisle. She is smiling as she sits and your dad comes up behind and joins her. Then the music changes and your heart begins to race. One by one the bridesmaids step-and-stop, step-and-stop to their positions. At the rehearsal this seemed to take forever, but today they flew by until you noticed Judy's smile as she passed. Next would be the Matron of Honor, Terri, and immediately the earlier happenings with her and Jackie flood your mind.
