This choice: "Stay here and get to know each other." • Go Back...Chapter #4"Stay here and get to know each other." by: NVR   "So, what have you been doing all this time Naruto?" Hinata asked with interest. Since the war they haven't talked much with each other, and now that Naruto seemed to be willing to date her again, it was the perfect time to catch up.
"W-well.. I have been trying to learn from Tsunade to be the next Hokage, a-and not much else I guess" Naruto for some reason felt intimidated and downplayed his achievement, despite being the next leader of the village pretty much a big thing
"Ohh, I guess it takes a lot of time? What does Tsunade have you doing?" Hinata asked
"It's.. mostly paperwork.. t-things about the history of the village, how to handle f-finances and things like that" Naruto admitted with a bit of a dull expression and blushed when Hinata just laughed
"Is that so? That seems like secretary work to me! You should be learning how to be a better leader so when something happens we don't just get to rely everything on you"
"You can rely on me Hinata, I will protect this village with my life!" Naruto exclaimed, getting back a bit of the spark that made Hinata fall in love with him back then
"But not for everything Naruto, even if you can make a clone for each person if the village it wouldn't be enough" Hinata quickly shot her down and shook her head at her crush's naivety
"Oh.. I-I guess you're right" Naruto admitted and blushed again. The way Hinata was so confident about what she was saying was undermining his confidence. Yes he was strong, but Hinata was right, being a Hokage was not about just being strong at all. Despite his work with Tsunade it seemed like Hinata knew more about how to do the job than him!
"And what about you, H-hinata?" Naruto asked timidly, wanting to know how she changed so much since the last time they talked
"I guess I'm in a similar situation than you, ready to receive the leadership of the clan from my father.. With Neji's help we already solved any remaining disputes and I'm pretty much doing the entire job by myself already, the only thing left to do is to make the transition official" Hinata beamed proudly.
Naruto felt a familiar sensation hearing that, something he felt when he found out Gaara was a Kazekage, or when he found out he still was a chuunin and his whole generation outranked him. He felt like he was inadequate and not as good as his peers, even if he could defeat them in battle they were able to do things quicker than he could. Would he really be the best Hokage the village could get?
"Something wrong?" Hinata asked, a curious expression on her face, not understanding why Naruto blushed so much and kept looking down at the floor but kind of enjoying it, now that she was used to get treated with respect as the leader of her clan she liked how someone outside the Hyuga's, the strongest ninja in the village no less, was seemingly treating her with a similar degree of subservience.
"S-sorry I was just thinking.. Congratulations Hinata!" Naruto smiled at her, a trace of his previous blush still visible on his cheeks
"What were you thinking about?" Hinata asked with a teasing smile
"It's j-just that you are doing a g-great job, I need to work harder!" Naruto tried to sound assured but for some reason wasn't pulling it off, he was still wondering if someone like Hinata wouldn't be a better Hokage
"I know you will! Keep working hard Naruto.. Oh, sorry, I need to go to a meeting.. You still owe me that date, are we clear?" Hinata asked using the kind of voice she used at her clan's meetings, just for fun.
"Y-yes H-inata" Naruto quickly answered. Maybe because this was someone who loved him and he was overwhelmed, or maybe due to Hinata's change of attitude Naruto was acting towards her in a way he didn't act even with known and respected leaders like Tsunade. She had certainly changed a lot since the academy days!
Hinata gave him a curious smile before suddenly getting her face near his and giving him a quick kiss on the lips, greatly enjoying Naruto's flustered reaction. "I can't wait" she whispered on her ear and went towards the door, leaving him with a red face and a stunned expression.
"And if you need help learning how to become a leader, just tell me" Hinata said before finally leaving Naruto's house.
Naruto's mind was a mess after that kiss, he felt so lucky Hinata still loved him. He had a lot to think about after that, where to go for the date, if he should bother her by asking for help, if he should ask Tsunade to speed up the process on him becoming Hokage or even if he should do some field research to confirm he would be the Hokage the village deserves..
