Chapter #3

12 years old.

You whimpered as you swallowed the remains of the human you were eating. You didn’t like eating or killing humans but they always attacked you and even after you ran they would find you and try to kill you. A few times they almost succeeded. You even fired warning shots and then verbally warned them but it did little good and they would almost force you to counter attack. The human you just ate was what was left over of a knight that was on one of those ‘holy missions’ they go on to slay dragons. The humans from this realm knew better than to attack you as they knew that Dark Hunters in general were not dragons you looked for on purpose much less attacked. Heck most of the time when a Dark Hunter was around the humans laid their weapons down or in the other direction. However sometimes a few would come through a portal on their missions and search dragons out for multiple reasons. If they didn’t force you to they were safe, from you. Most other dragons could smell the difference and ate them regardless. Only humans from this realm were protected by Dragons. The humans or creatures from other realms were fare game. One of many reasons you hated dragons.

It was strange but you thoroughly enjoyed humans, even if all they did was curse, attack, or fear you. However as a 500 foot Dark Hunter King you ironically hated other dragons with a passion. Most of the time if you saw a dragon, which was often because you could see pretty far, you killed and/or ate it. Besides you figured that they had more meat on them anyway. Even the longer snake types that were the one dragon that was larger than Dark Hunters at 800+ feet you took down. Those usually lasted you a month as you rationed the meat. However other Dark Hunters were your favorite. Not only did they taste almost as good as humans but there was another reason that was the spawn of your hatred for them. A reason you had buried and rarely addressed but was still there. The unspoken and unfounded hatred that was shown to you when you were young was now unconsciously reflected on them. Didn’t matter if it was a baby or full Queen, if they came to close to your territory they died and most of the time before they knew you were even there. Needless to say, fighting such difficult opponents all the time toned you quite well and gave you a decent amount of hidden scars that most never were close enough to see.

You sat in your new cave that easily fit and hid your frame. It was on the side of the mountain and not easily found. It usually took extremely skilled hunters and knights days to find it. Then they could only get in if you left the door, which was a large boulder, open. You tossed the armor from the knight into a side room along with his blade and shield, trying to forget him and the fact that you had been forced, yet again, to kill/eat him. You stretched your wings as you left and rolled the door closed with a bit of magic. It was impossible to close it without magic from the outside as the large bolder was on the inside and was quite heavy, even for you. You looked around and then took to the sky after making sure no one was around.

It was then you saw something you had never seen before, as you soared far above so you looked like a bird to any human on the ground. You could of course see them just fine, you could even see the ants under the ground if you desired to. But this was a new site for you. A dragon was walking on in a city. You marveled at him and the fact they actually figure out you wouldn’t attack them if they were invited by humans. You saw the street clear and any humans that were outside quickly went in doors. The situation was getting more troublesome by the moment, even more so when he snarled at a few guards as the dragon entered the town center and went for the center. In the center was a little girl, not any older than you were, strapped to a pole in the traditional sacrifice manner. Seeing sacrifices to dragons were common and you never accepted them but usually the sacrifices were thieves or criminals that were going to be executed. You decided that this dragon might be worth breaking your usual rule of entering towns to deal with. So you ducked in the nearest clouds and road them down so you were a thousand feet above the town square without being seen. Then you observed, maybe there was a good reason they chose this girl.

“This is it!” the dragon said as he circled the obviously frightened girl. “I said I wanted a meal not some abused little human that is nothing but skin and bones.” He snarled at an old man that was the only other person in the center of the town square.

“Please, have mercy!” the girl begged and cried but the man slapped her in the face and from the look of her not for the first time. She slumped in her binding from the force of the slap as the mayer turned fearfully to the dragon.

“We are working on breeding you more meals. The only others we have are the men or too old. You said you liked the young women so we brought you what we had. There should be a few coming from other villages next month. We will keep them here for you if you will accept her now. She may be small but I’m sure she will be more than satisfying.” He said as he brought his hand to her near naked body. Most dragons that received sacrifices don’t like the taste of clothes so they have them prepared without them. The dragon walked up to them and sloppily licked the girl as if giving a taste test. She was uncontrollably whimpering as she probably crying all the tears she could already.

“You know, for a human, you have excellent taste in women. She does in fact taste to die for.” He almost growled and gave a toothy grin that made the girl turn away in fear and the mayor become uncomfortable.

“Please someone, anyone, help.” She whimpered, not expecting anything to save her as both the mayor and dragon looked at her again.

“And she still has the hope that someone will save her. That always makes them fight longer. I am really starting to get excited.” The dragon said than got close enough to her that his tongue was touching her as he spoke. “No one cares about you little girl. No one is coming for you. Only me and my tummy.” He said in a arrogant voice that you had enough of. You either needed to kill him or save the girl. You didn’t have time in one pass to do both. If you landed in the square you would wreck some of the buildings and maybe hurt some of the innocent humans. So you had to choose; to save the girl or eat the dragon for by the time you had time to do another pass the girl would be dead or the dragon would have left.

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Save the girl.

*Noteb*
2. Eat the dragon.

3. Take a chance and try for both.

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
