The sun was high in the sky when Samuel approached you, a sense of purpose in his stride. You had been dozing under a tree, but at his approach, you straightened, alert.
“Arrow,” Samuel began, adjusting his hat, “we need to head into the village today.”
Curiosity pricked at you. You had never been to the village before. You responded with a thoughtful hum, projecting your curiosity and willingness to him. Samuel smiled, patting your flank affectionately.
"We're going to sell some of the crop, and pick up supplies. I could use your help carrying some of the heavier items." His voice was calm and composed as always, but there was a hint of concern in his eyes, which you caught onto quickly.
"Is there something I should worry about?" You projected the question towards him, your gaze questioning.
“It’s just that... well, humans aren't usually as accepting as you might think. They may not react well to seeing a Dark Hunter in the heart of their village.” He answered honestly.
You understood his concern but determined to support him, you let out a reassuring rumble and nuzzled his hand. The human's worries eased slightly at your assurance. "Do not worry. I will try my best to look as non threatening as possible." you said. Samuel responded in a gruff tone. "You can try. But I doubt it will matter. After all your kind is not one to be taken lightly. Now help me carry this equipment to the horses." Preparations soon began. You were tasked with carrying the heavier equipment and supplies, while Samuel led a small column of pack animals loaded with the season's crops.
Upon arrival, the village was unlike anything you had ever seen. There were structures much larger and different than Samuel’s humble abode, clustered together, with a hustle of humans moving about. You could sense their surprise, curiosity, and fear as they saw you, the dragon, in their midst. It was a strange mixture of emotions that washed over you, causing a slight unease.
Yet, Samuel, standing tall beside you, offered a comforting presence. He went about his business, selling his crops and buying the necessary supplies. Conversations sparked between Samuel and the villagers, their tones ranged from polite to outright wary, their eyes never straying far from your colossal form.
“You’ve got some nerve, Samuel!” One of the villagers exclaimed pointing at you. “Bringing a creature like that here.” You turned you head in a look of shame. It was the first time you had been referred to in such a manner.
Samuel noticing your reaction, leaned on a pile of feed sacks and met the villager’s gaze steadily. “Arrow here has been nothing but helpful, Ned. He’s a friend.”
"I don't care if he's a friend. That's a Dark Hunter right there. It'll eat ya in your sleep." Ned marched off clearly unhappy with your presence.
Word of you spread, and soon, a tiny group had gathered around the marketplace. Children peeked out from behind their parents, their eyes filled with awe and wonder. The adults, however, bore expressions of trepidation and disbelief. Whispers spread through the crowd, a cacophony of voices that echoed in your mind. Samuel had gone off on his own leaving you here by yourself as you couldn't fit in the stores.
You layed on the floor of the marketplace rather stressed at being left alone here. There we so many people many of which feared you. Suddenly, a child no older than nine years of age broke free of the distracted parents. He ran straight towards you. The boy not paying attention made impact with your snout knocking himself to the ground. The marketplace went deathly quiet. The people awaiting your reaction.
