Chapter #5

Telling mom

    by: Georgie Author IconMail Icon
Rachael meets you in the school hallway after the last lesson, and asks if she can go home with you to explain to your mom all about the project, what your role will be, and ease any concerns that she may have about the sexual integrity of her son.

Whilst you're still rather uncertain about the whole idea, you have been thinking about it during the day, and the thought of dressing as a girl is somehow feeling more exciting - although you're not really sure how much girl's stuff you will need to wear - possibly having to wear a skirt instead of your trousers, and suppose some make up, but surely that could be about it. Mind you, you certainly wouldn't object to trying on any of Rachael's undies for size, even though you don't need to!

She walks home with you, and you arrive almost simultaneously with your mom, on her way back from work in the local Mall.

"Hi Tony! Who's your friend?"

"Hiya mom. This is Rachael. We're working on our Humanities project together." you explain.

"Oh that's excellent. Hi, Rachael! Do come in and tell me all about it."

You all go into the house, and you mom makes some drinks. "So what is this project? Did you say Humanities? Isn't that the new department that the school has opened?"

"Yeah, we're doing behavioral science, and we've got a project where... um..." You start faultering in your attempt at describing the project, but Rachael then steps in.

"We need to decide on a group project. The aim is to study perceptions and behaviors, and we agreed that Tony would be best suited to take the central role in our project, but we wanted to talk it though with you first to make sure you're happy."

"I don't understand. I'm fairly sure that if you've all agreed on the project and sorted out the best roles for everyone, then why should I have any problem?"

"Because I will need to dress up as a girl." you respond.

"I thought you said it was a Humanities project - not something theatrical..."

"Yes, it is." Rachael cuts in again. "We need to study behaviors. We want to observe and record how peoples' behaviors change based purely on the perception of a person's gender. We considered everyone in the group, and felt that Tony was best suited for the key role. We wanted someone with a very clear understanding of their own identity, but who could be disguised fairly easily. For anyone who doesn't know him, at first glance he could easily be taken as either a boy or girl." She pauses for a few seconds to let the concept settle, and then continues. "So we'll study how Tony interacts with others as himself, and then make him appear to be a girl, and repeat the process in similar situations, and so identify any differences."

"Wow, that sounds quite ambitious. How long is the project for - sounds a lot of work just for a couple of days."

"Yes, it's supposed to be completed by the end of the Semester..."
