Your name is Tony. You're mid-teens, quite slim and slightly small for your age. You have a younger sister Millie. She's around a year younger than you, but very nearly as tall.
It's now the summer holiday and you've both gone on a camping trip. Your parents both work full time with long hours, so can't be at home much during the holiday, so it was agreed you could take yourselves off around the locality, camping each night and hiking during the day, on condition that you text each morning and evening, which you reckon is reasonable. You've been in the Boy Scouts, so know how to pitch a tent and do your own cooking, although Millie is a bit less confident, and hopes that she'll learn from you.
You set off from home with a rucksack each containing hopefully everything you'll need, although with the tent, sleeping bags, cooking equipment and all of the essentials for camping, there's less room for clothing than you'd like, and you know you'll need to buy food every couple of days. But as you told Millie that's half the fun of it, having to manage with what you've got, and improvise when you need to.
Fortunately the weather is dry and warm, so you have only a lightweight waterproof, really in case of anything unexpected. You hike for around 10 miles on the first day, stopping at a campsite beside a slow moving river, with a small shop next to the showers and washroom. There are half a dozen caravans parked up to one side, all linked in to the power and water supplies, and around the same number of tents a little closer to the washroom.
After you've paid the camping fee at the shop you wander over to the camping area and find somewhere suitable to pitch your tent. Not too close to the walkway to the washroom, not on a slope, not too close to the river, not under any trees. OK, you find the perfect spot, and are happy to unburden your rucksack, dropping it on the grass. Millie follows your lead and does likewise with her rucksack. You then have to erect the tent, and much to her disappointment you need Millie to help. Your mum insisted that you should both have partitioned sleeping areas, so your original idea of a two man tent turned into a three person version with a partition. Oh well, it's only half as heavy again as the two man.
It takes about twenty minutes to build the tent, and then you set up the stove outside whilst Millie goes inside to unpack her sleeping bag and kit. You'd brought meals for tonight with you that just needed heating, so once the burner is lit you put the food into a billy to heat up. Then you go inside the tent. Millie had taken the back area which had a zip up partition, leaving you the front area. Not bad, although you know you'll be disturbed if Millie wants to get out at all, but otherwise OK. You've slept in far worse than this.
After your evening meal you both sit outside for a while until it starts getting a little cool.
"Probably as well to head inside now." you tell Millie, "it'll be warmer inside, and an early night wouldn’t be a bad thing as we'll probably be awake early. If the birds don't wake us, the sunshine will."
You both visit the appropriate washroom, and then head inside the tent. Millie gets undressed in her area first, although doesn't bother to zip up the partition, knowing that you're more embarrassed at seeing her naked than she is. Then she slips on her PJs. You're not quite so happy to be seen naked, even by your sister, but manage to get into your PJs quite quickly.
You spend the next hour talking about the planned route for the next day, send the obligatory text to your mom, and playing on your phones. Then you reckon it’s time to settle down, although you realize Millie is already laid out in her sleeping bag snuggling down.
"Night night Millie."
"Numm, night Tony."
You snuggled down yourself to try to get some sleep.
