You wake up. It’s clearly the middle of the night as it’s dark, and you know the tent leaks light in both directions, so if it’s dark inside, it’s dark outside. Oh, it’s Millie. She’s moving around, clearly feeling her way around as if she’s trying to find something.
“You okay sis?” you ask.
“Yeah, just need a squeeze. Trying to find something to put on.”
“Okay. Put a torch on if you can't see... You alright going out on your own?”
“Come on! I’m old enough to walk across a bit of grass without you holding my hand.”
“Not quite what I meant, but if you’re happy, that’s okay.” With that you roll over, trying to ignore what she’s doing. There are a few mumbles and quiet expletives.
“Can I borrow your shoes? I can’t find mine.”
You know hers had been beside yours, just inside the outside opening to the tent, but you’re too tired to argue the point. “Sure.”
Then the outside zipper is opened and Millie goes out.
A few minutes later she returns, stepping over you as before and clambers back into her sleeping bag. You try to get back to sleep, but now that you've been disturbed you know you settle won’t until you’ve gone for a wee as well. You sit up and feel around for your shoes by the door. You can only find one pair by feeling around, so slip then on. Without realizing it you've put on Millie's shoes instead of your own. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/5d/4f/c5/...
When you return to the tent you take the shoes off and place them inside the door again, still not aware they weren't yours, although oddly they'd felt more comfortable than usual. Maybe 'cos you hadn't put any socks on, you wonder... Who knows? You snuggle down again for the rest of the night.
