This choice: Something Goes Wrong on the Way • Go Back...Chapter #5Something Goes Wrong on the Way by: DragonFish Cameron and Jordyn skated down the sidewalk, the summer heat already making their trip to Melissa’s apartment feel longer than it should. The streets were mostly quiet, aside from the occasional car passing by and a few people walking their dogs. Jordyn, as usual, was full of energy, kicking off the pavement faster than Cameron.
"Keep up, slowpoke!" she teased, glancing back at him.
"It’s called pacing myself," Cameron shot back, pushing forward with just enough speed to match her. "Unlike you, I don’t want to wipe out."
"Please," Jordyn scoffed. "I’m an expert."
Just as she said that, her board hit an uneven crack in the pavement, sending her flying forward. She yelped as she tumbled onto the sidewalk, her board clattering ahead of her.
Cameron skidded to a stop, laughing as he reached out a hand to help her up. "An expert, huh?"
Jordyn groaned, brushing dirt off her shorts. "Okay, maybe not that expert."
Before they could get moving again, disaster struck—Cameron attempted to adjust his footing on his skateboard, but as he did, he hit a patch of loose gravel. He lost his balance and crashed forward, landing with a loud rip! as he skidded across the pavement.
Jordyn gasped, then burst into laughter. "Oh man, Cam, that sounded bad."
Cameron pushed himself up, wincing as he looked down—his jeans had torn in the worst way possible, a huge rip running from his thigh down to his knee, barely held together. "Great," he muttered. "This is just perfect."
Jordyn wiped away a tear from laughing. "Well, I do have some bad news… the only spare clothes we have are in Melissa’s bag."
Cameron’s stomach sank as he looked at the shopping bag filled with Melissa’s stuff. "No," he said immediately.
Jordyn smirked. "Cam, buddy, you either wear that or risk walking through town like that." She gestured dramatically at his ruined jeans.
Cameron groaned. "This is the worst day ever."
With no other choice, he grabbed the bag and started digging through it. To his horror, all he could find were dresses and skirts. Frantically, he kept searching until his fingers brushed against something he thought were shorts. Relief flooded him as he pulled them out. "Finally!" he sighed, holding them up.
Jordyn glanced over and immediately burst into laughter. "Cam… those aren’t shorts."
Cameron frowned and examined them closer. The realization hit him like a brick. "You’ve got to be kidding me." It wasn’t shorts at all—it was a denim skort, with the front appearing like a skirt but with hidden shorts underneath.
Jordyn wiped away a tear. "Oh, this just keeps getting better!"
Cameron scowled. "If you say one word, I swear—"
"No promises," Jordyn giggled. "Now hurry up and change before someone sees you."
With a deep sigh, Cameron trudged behind a nearby bush, knowing full well that this day was only going to get worse. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
