"Alright," Christina said as they stepped out of the burger place. "You made your sexist little comment, and now it's time to pay up. We're skipping the makeup—for now—but you’re definitely getting a new outfit."
Cameron sighed. "What kind of outfit?"
"Feminine," she replied simply. "Come on, there’s a second-hand shop around the corner."
The shop was small and eclectic, filled with vintage clothes and mismatched accessories. It had the soft hum of an old radio playing indie music, and a faint scent of lavender. Christina led the way, flipping through racks with practiced ease.
"Try these," she said after a few minutes, handing him three hangers. "You’ll pick one. Just go with it."
Cameron took them without protest. It wasn’t exactly his ideal afternoon, but he liked spending time with Christina. Even if it meant trying on outfits that made him feel awkward.
Outfit 1: A white fitted blouse tucked into a short pastel yellow pleated skirt, with knee-high socks and loafers. A pink headband and charm bracelet completed the look.
When Cam stepped out of the dressing room, he shifted uncomfortably. Christina didn’t laugh—she just looked at him, eyes tracing the shape of his face and the way the skirt emphasized his legs. For a second, she didn’t say anything.
He looked almost exactly like Anna.
"Okay," she said quietly, recovering. "Try the next one."
Outfit 2: A short floral sundress layered over a fitted white tee, paired with a straw hat and simple flats.
Cam stepped out slowly. The dress swayed around his knees. He avoided the mirror and Christina’s gaze, rubbing his arm as he stood there.
"Alright," she said gently. "Last one."
Outfit 3: A crop top with a colorful print, very short denim shorts, and a zip-up hoodie. It came with oversized sunglasses and sneakers.
When he stepped out in the final outfit, Christina blinked again. There was something oddly familiar about the way he carried himself in it. The resemblance to Anna was stronger now—more than just siblings, it was like watching a reflection skewed sideways.
Cam stood awkwardly, arms crossed.
"Which one?" he asked, not quite meeting her eyes.
Christina hesitated, then smiled softly. "Whichever one you’re most comfortable in. We’ve got the whole day ahead of us."
He looked between the outfits, uncertain. But for all the discomfort, he was still glad to be here—with her. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
