Cameron and Jordyn skated through the neighborhood, weaving around pedestrians and dodging the occasional crack in the sidewalk. The sun was high in the sky now, and the summer heat made the ride a bit uncomfortable. Cameron could already feel sweat gathering under his black t-shirt.
"Man, it’s way hotter than I thought it would be," he muttered, wiping his brow.
"Well, you could always wear one of the skirts in that bag," Jordyn teased, kicking off the pavement to gain more speed.
Cameron groaned. "Not happening."
Before long, they reached Melissa’s apartment complex, a three-story building with beige walls and a row of balconies on the second and third floors. Cameron and Jordyn walked their skateboards to the entrance, where Jordyn buzzed the intercom. After a moment, Melissa’s voice came through.
"Hey! You guys made it. Come on up!"
The door clicked open, and they stepped inside, heading for the stairs. Melissa’s apartment was on the second floor, so it was a short climb. When they reached her door, it swung open before they even had the chance to knock.
Melissa grinned at them from the doorway. "Took you long enough!"
"Blame the heat," Cameron said, stepping inside. "And Jordyn’s bad skating."
Jordyn scoffed. "Excuse you, I beat you here by, like, ten seconds."
Melissa chuckled, taking the bag from Cameron’s hands. "Thanks for bringing this. Mom said she’d drop it off, but I figured she’d find a way to pawn it off on someone else."
"Yep," Jordyn said. "That’s exactly what happened."
Melissa set the bag on her couch and started sifting through the clothes. "Oh, thank God. I needed this dress for later tonight. I would’ve been so screwed without it."
Cameron plopped down on one of the chairs. "You’re welcome. Can we go now?"
Melissa smirked. "In a rush?" She pulled out a particularly frilly dress from the bag and held it up. "You sure you don’t want to try something on first?"
Jordyn burst out laughing. "See? Even Melissa thinks you’d look cute!"
Cameron rolled his eyes. "I walked into that one, didn’t I?"
Melissa winked. "Absolutely."
