This choice: Only Cameron was staying with Sylvia • Go Back... "Well as you know, Anna, Christina, and I were planning to leave for our girls' trip tomorrow," Helen started to explain. "But I was talking to my sister Sylvia yesterday and we decided that we all would go over to her place for a bit today and then you can stay with her for the week while we're gone."
"What? Can't I just stay here?" Cam protested.
"It's summer, Cam, you can't just sit around the house all day and play video games," his mother replied. "I think it will be good for you to get out for a bit and spend some time with your cousins."
"Do I have to?" Cam asked, still trying to get out of it.
"Yes," Helen said. "Unless you would prefer to come with us on our trip? I'm fine with either, but I don't want you lazing around the house all summer."
Cam gave it some thought. Every summer, his mom and sisters went on a girls' trip. Cam was always invited, of course, but since the trips were focused around various girly activities, he never joined. His mother always arranged for him to stay with a friend or, in this case, family, but Cam was getting to the age where he could be a bit more independent, or at least he thought so. In any case, he wasn't keen on joining them on their girly trip.
"No, I'll just stay with Aunt Sylvia, it's fine," he eventually said.
"Good, I know Zoe and Kaylie were looking forward to seeing you," Helen replied. "Now go and get yourself packed so we don't end up running late."
"Okay," Cam said before heading back to his room to pack. He grabbed a bag and threw a week's worth of clothes into it, then played some video games until it was time to go. When his mom told him it was time to go, he threw his black and white skate shoes on and headed down to the car.

After an uneventful ride over to Sylvia's, the Brewers spent the next hour or so catching up with their family as it had been a while since they had seen each other. It was a little while after lunchtime when Cam's mom and sisters left. Helen would have liked to have stayed a bit longer, but they had quite a drive ahead of them and she wanted to beat the traffic.
"See you in a week," Helen said as she departed with Anna and Christina.
"Bye Mom," said Cam.
Once her sister and nieces had left, Sylvia turned to Cam. She was dressed casually in a short-sleeved blue top, some comfortable white shorts, and a pair of black sandals, and she had her hair pulled up in a loose bun. "Alright, can I get you anything, Cam?" she asked. "A drink maybe?"
"Oh sure," said Cam.
Cam followed his aunt to the kitchen and she grabbed him a drink from the refrigerator. She had barely handed it to him when was swarmed by Zoe and Kaylie. Zoe was wearing a sleeveless light blue top with thin straps, pink denim shorts, and white knee socks, with her long blonde hair flowing down over her shoulders. Kaylie was wearing a short-sleeved purple top with a cute pink flower on it, a frilly white skirt, and pink tights, and she had her golden brown hair in twin braids.
"Do you wanna play with us Cam?" Zoe asked.
"Yeah! Let's play!" Kaylie added enthusiastically.
"Now girls, give Cam some space," Sylvia told her daughters. "Let him have his drink first at least."
"Okay, okay," Zoe said before running off with Kaylie.
"Well they're certainly excited to have you," Sylvia laughed.
"Seems like it," Cameron said, sipping his drink.
"Well I've got to grab the laundry," said Sylvia. "Just let me know if you need anything else."
"Okay."
As Sylvia walked off, Cam headed over to the couch. For the next while, Cam watched some TV as he finished off his drink. After he had relaxed on the couch for a while...   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
