"Our son is so amazing! Building something like this!" your mom squeals with excitement and pride.
Your dad, on the other hand, is nowhere near as excited. "Yeah, he's a genius, but he's created something dangerous this time... More dangerous than his other toys. We need to destroy it before it starts ruining-" He freezes as his wife glares daggers.
"Mark, you are not going to take away another of his accomplishments. He's not a child that you can just control anymore. If you want your own kids to take care of you when you're old, you need to stop destroying the things they care about. I don't care how 'dangerous' you think it is, I trust him to use it responsibly."
Your dad starts to sweat, as he pleads. "Honey, but... This... Someone could use this to replace someone... One of us. And we'd never know. They could steal someone's life and walk away with it! What if someone swapped your mind into a goldfish and flushed you down the drain? We'd never know there was an imposter walking around in your skin!"
"Mark, look at this. There's a body switching machine in our garage. If one of us started acting funny, we'd know right away what happened."
"But-"
"Mark. If you put a dent on Luke's machine, we are done. You'll lose me regardless."
Your dad's jaw drops, and he puts his hands on his head. "AArrgh FFFF-" he yells in frustration, before walking out of the garage without another word.
Your mom felt a little bad for bluffing about a divorce, but she'd make it up to him later. She was too excited to take this wonderful new toy for a spin! Who would she swap with?
Her husband was out of the question for the moment, so if she wanted to swap with a man it would probably have to be one of her sons. Kyle would probably go along with it, but she could definitely convince you.
It might be weird to switch with one of her male children, but it's very normal for a mother to switch with her daughter. It made her smile imagining all the hijinks that could happen! Erika might dress her adult body up in goth clothing, and Kim could embarrass the living heck out of her in front of her friends. What fun!
Kim's friend Jennie, who she had known since she was a teenager, lived just a few streets over. She trusted her like her own family, but she could be a bit... prickly. If she could use the machine to switch bodies with other people, she might gain a little more empathy.
