There was an entire week to enjoy everything the resort had to offer, Yuki wasn't going to miss out by taking some time to relax after the lengthy road trip. Strolling out of her bedroom and into the den of the luxury accommodations, Yuki was greeted by the sight of her friends that had come with her on the trip.
Lounging on the couch, her head buried in a magazine, was Miki. A Japanese-American like Yuki, the two had been close friends since meeting in grade school, and Yuki considered Miki to be her closest friend, able to trust her with just about anything. Reclining in a comfy-looking chair and channel surfing was Jessica, a buxom redhead that got more attention from the boys in school than she'd prefer, earning her a reputation as a bit of an ice queen. Yuki knew better, however, and had seen Jessica's true hot-blooded nature on several occasions. Lastly, sitting completely absorbed in a handheld video game, was Lily, easily the quietest of the group, very shy and much more comfortable when she had a game to distract her from her surroundings. All in all, they were a bit of a strange group, but they were close friends.
Shooing Miki's legs away, Yuki took a seat on the couch, idly stretching out as she watched the channels fly by while Jessica fiddled with the remote. The room was relatively quiet, with the exception of Lily's game and the constantly changing sounds coming from the television. After about half an hour of lazy relaxation, Miki was the one to break the silence.
"So, are we just gonna sit around in this room all day? Because we could have stayed home and did that, and saved money too." Miki said, tossing her magazine aside.
"Gimme a break, Miki." Jessica said. "We were in that car for hours, so forgive me if I want to stretch out for a bit before I go and ruin you guys on the slopes."
"A little cocky, don't you think?" Miki asked, an eyebrow raised at Jessica's comment. "What makes you so sure you're so much better than us?"
Jessica smirked, setting down the remote and standing up. With her hands on her hips, she walked over to Miki's position on the couch and stood over her. "Because I'm the best athlete in this room. If you're so sure I'm full of it, why don't we make a bet? I'll take any of you on!"
"Yeah, no thanks. I'm smarter than to agree to any of your bets." Miki said, waving Jessica away with a lazy movement of her hand. "Besides, I'd rather try out the spa, or maybe those hot springs. It'd be like I was actually in Japan."
Miki had always had a love of her heritage, jumping at the chance to do something "authentically Japanese" as she put it. Of course, being in a similar ethnic boat, Yuki often found herself being dragged along on Miki's adventures. Sometimes it turned out rather pleasant, like the time Miki had convinced Yuki to try sushi. Other times, Yuki was glad she didn't live in Japan, such as the incident with the samurai sword. Still, nothing deterred Miki from her determination to emulate her heritage whenever the chance arose.
"You and Japanese stuff, I swear." Jessica huffed, turning to the final member of the group. "What about you, Lily? You haven't said a word all day."
Lily looked up from her game for the first time since getting to the room, hesitantly pausing the game so she could speak. "Oh, uh, well... the game room sounds like it might be fun."
Miki and Jessica both rolled their eyes. Count on Lily to suggest they play games at a ski resort. The two then turned their attention to Yuki, who had simply been observing the situation with amused interest.
"What about you, Yuki?" Miki asked. "What sounds fun to you?"
All three options sounded like they could be fun, and they'd be a nice way to bond with her friends. Miki was likely to not stop bugging her about the hot springs until she tagged along. It might be fun to put Jessica in her place, assuming Yuki could manage to beat her on the slopes, though losing could be an ordeal, depending on what Jessica had in mind for the loser. Then again, Yuki felt like she barely ever got a chance to actually do something with Lily, and playing games with her might help break her out of her shell a little bit, at least for awhile.
Making her decision, Yuki stood up from the couch and declared her intention to-
